Default 8 Valve head on a 944s?

I purchased a 88 944S today with bent valves and trashed cam shafts. I would like to know the pros and cons of putting an 8 valve head on it as a cheaper alternative to getting it back on the road. I belive i will still get a bit of a HP and torque iincrease due to the higher compression pistons? If any one could tell me if this plan would work, and if it would be a good idea.. please comment

thanks,
keith

the 944S uses larger fuel injectors than the 8v n/a, and you would also possibly need an 8v DME.

i would think you need to get the smaller injectors, and the 8v DME.

you would probably also need an 8v DME plug, to redo the wiring. because it's not a direct swap.

won't work..... the valves have different placement, and will hit the top of the pistons. In othe words, the cut-outs in the pistons are in different places.

the pistons are different, with cutouts for the 4 valve head.

Also the intake manifold, rubber afm boot, etc. etc. It would be best to fix the 16 valve head.

hi

i also have a 944s the same thing happened to the previous owner of my car, i have the recite in my folder but from memory the cost was £2000 for parts new i might add, i decided when i bought the car if it ever happened to me i would remove the 16 valve engine altogether and replace it with a 8 valve engine

there are some parts on e bay UK ( e mail him he might ship them over to you )

no such thing as a cheap 16 valve head unfortunately. They would go for about $1000 complete.

Even if you did put in an 8V DME and injectors, you'd still have the wrong flywheel and AFM.

I suspect however that if you found an S2 engine and tossed it in, it'd run pretty well with the S DME. An S2 engine/head might not cost much more than an S head in these troubled times.

hmm i dont know what im going to do.. i dont really want to part it out.. so i might start gathering the parts to rebuild the head.. unless i can find a cheaper alternative..

an S2 head will not bolt onto an S block. The S2 engine would not work with an S dme DME either, different timing and engine management for a 3L motor.
