I love the sound of the Flowmaster 50, but how would the sound differ from a 2.5" or 3" than the 2.25"?
Could i just get a 2.25" to a 3" step up and just weld that in?

Rmills944- one of the main problems with my muffler now is that the tip is so rusted away that it's basically just the muffler left. this causes all of the carbon to accumulate on my bumper. maybe i could just fit some sort of new tip on it. Although the muffler itself is probably just as rusted away!

I listened to the clips at Flowmaster and i think that the 50 series sounds to muscley the 60 series sounded better in my opinion. Anyone have a 60 series? Anyone have a 50 series? Can anyone put up sound or movie clips of their system?

I got a custom system made at a local exhaust shop. It consists of a Magnaflow High Flow Cat, Dynomax Bullet Muffler (used as a resonator), and a Magnaflow Muffler. The piping is upgraded to 2.5" from the cat back.

It sounds good and feels a lot more responsive. Cost me about $ 450. It's pretty loud though. It's tough for me on long trips, but it's great at autocross. I'm actually thinking of selling it and going back to stock. Either that or just getting a stock system that I can put on when taking a long trip.

Is your car a non turbo? 3" is too big for an NA.

I'll second the Flowmaster 50 series (3 chamber). I have one welded up to the stock pipe, factory looking tip welded to the muffler. More bass than the stock muffler. You can here it coming from down the street (not a ricey load sound, just a deeper sort of rumble). Got the muffler for a little over $100 shipped 3 years ago. A friend welded it up for me. Still on the car

3" from the muffler back won't be bad. It's about 3" of pipe, then the tip. If you're talking from the cat back, I'd agree with you.

carrera51- do you remember where you got the tip at?

camaromuncher- i definetly agree with you. the 60 series sounds way more like a porsche than the 50 series on the flowmaster website.

Has anyone tried the 60 series, or would it sound too much like a riced-out honduh?

I had a cheap aftermarket OEM "style" muffler that had a nice looking OEM like tip on it. I cut that tip off and welded it to the flowmaster.

I ended up going with the 50 series because I got to hear one in person on another 944 n/a.

lol. you could put a 10" pipe on the muffler back. unless the pipe continues for more than a foot past the mufflers, (old mucle cars ect) it wont affect performance.

Wow noone has ansewerd our question yet. Has anyone heard a 50 and a 60 on a 944. Which sounds better. To me the 50 sounded absolutley nothing like a 944 should, but the car could have been a big block v8.

Does the size of the exhaust tip/pipe coming out of the muffler affect the sound? Does a larger exhaust tip sound louder than a smaller one? Or is it the same regardless of size?

bigger from the muffler back won't make much difference on these cars since it's about 1 foot of tubing including the tip from the muffler back. The tip is just for decoration - no difference in sound unless it's resonated.

Does anyone have any experience with the resonator exhaust tips? Do they actually lower the sound at all?
