Okay, well it's time for a new muffler since mine's almost completely rusted out. So which ones should i consider? i really don't want to spend alot, but i am open for suggestions. ('89 944 non-turbo)

Speedforce racing is the one I got, but it's around $650 for the stainless version and sounds mean as hell.
Just a warning: on a non-turbo it will set off alarms - it's pretty loud. I have sound clips I can send you

+12345 for the XR-1
I have that on my sti, and the sound is amazing
(although mine is uncatted and not slienced, so i set off car alarms all the time)

You could just use your existing pipe and run a flowmaster or Borla off that piping and it'd be less that $150 for that. I will advise against Magnaflow as I had one before this setup and it just sounded too ricey. A flowmaster 50 series would be great though (had one on my Jeep 3.7L and it wasn't loud unless you really got on it and was low pitched how it should be).

Maybe a local $20 special until you figure out what to do with the exh sys.

Look on flowmaster's site for a sample sound clip from a car with a similar sized engine and it should sound similar. Just make sure you go with a 3 chamber or more. Less chambers = more noise. (hopefully they still keep sound clips there somewhere)
If you want a cheapo muffler till you can get something really nice, I will say my brother has a cheapo (just 2.5" pipe and it on a small 4 cylinder) on his offroad truck and it actually sounds pretty good. (Advance autoparts $20 special)

i kind of like the oem look, but i wanted just a little more sound. i may look into borla, yet their website says they don't have anything available. The flowmaster was my first idea, yet i want it to fit/look more oem.

You wouldn't know it's aftermarket if you mounted it up under the back end right where your stock one is and reused your stock tip - it'll look just like what you have now (that's how my magnaflow was).

I have the Borla XR-1 on my car also.. the SFR catback. Its a nice system and is about 15lbs lighter than the stock system. It does sound awsome, but you do pay alot for it.
I have been meaning to get some better video of my car, drive bys and incar. I will probably do it later tonight.
