Detroit (and points north) Caravan to the Fest

Sorry to hear that Vaughan, but I'll definitely be there for the next one.
I fear I may be in the same boat as you as far as the fest goes. I plan on doing the SEMPCA DE at Waterford Hills next Thursday and the tech day is Saturday and I don't like the thought of paying another 80 bucks to get it done during the week.

Found a good parking spot at work today
AZMI (Sean) is on his way to AZ, driving a company vehicle (bet you can't guess which company ). There was a spot next to his car this morning when I arrived...

LOL... no, I was in the van again this AM - still only have '24's, you'd either see me in the Plat 931 or the black 924S...

OK - here's the proposed route. This is certainly open to interpretation and improvisation as needed. I expect the stretch through Brunswick on 303 and from Macedonia to Silo on 82 will not be overly pleasant. I'm hoping the rest should be pretty good.
Pick up 420 just south of the terminus of I-280 (at the interchange of I-80) heading south.
Take 20 south east, skirting Fremont to the north (Hwy 6/ Hwy 20).
Continue on 20 around the south side of Norwalk.
Leave 20 for 303 on the south side of Wakeman.
Stay on 303 straight across until about 2 miles east of Richfield where we can pick up I-271 north.
Exit for SR 82 near/in Macedonia.
Continue on 82 east all the way to the track (becomes 305 east of Hiram).
That's it. This should get us there. No guarantees that it will be a great (or even good) route. There are plenty of options open should we decide a given road sucks.

I'm going to give them a call tonight then. It would be such a bummer to miss out becase of a 30 min tech inspection. Plus it would give me a chance to get the Hoosiers I've been storing at my parents house. I'm so anxious to finally get them out on the track.

Scott,
I might hook up with you guys as far as Hinckley (303 just E of 71) where I'll stay the night at a friend's place.
I'm in Livonia, so I'll probably be taking pretty much the same route as you guys heading South (275?) It's just a matter of figuring out when.
280 is somewhat closed through Toledo, depending on if you believe the signs of not. It's pretty easy to get through as long as you don't mind going a couple of blocks through the hoods of Toledo - take the Greenbelt pkwy West, left at the first light, dodge around the barricade (go East or West for 1 block) then continue South until you hit Summit street at the river. Make a left (East) and you can get right back on 280. The other option is following 75, but that adds 8-10 miles.
A good place to meet up with anyone else (Wes, Chicago crew etc...) would be off 280 (420) just south of the turnpike at Libbey road. On the West side is a gas station with the cheapest gas in the Midwest.
I just did the rt 20 thing a few weeks ago, and it reminded me of why I don't like to go that way. It's just boring, as if the road was laid out by snapping the worlds longest chalk line.
As a suggestion, hwy 2 up by the lake is at least a bit more interesting. I like to pick up 163 off of 420, run that all the way into Port Clinton, pick up hwy 2 to Sandusky, then shoot down hwy 250 toward Norwalk and pick up 20 at that point (it's worth dodging Norwalk by running down 601 from Milan though) From there, it's pretty much what you've laid out. I'd probably stay on 303 all the way to 88 and run that up to 305, but at that point, it'll be dark anyway, so running through the CV National Park is kind of pointless.
The stretch through Brunswick on 303 isn't too bad - it's only 3 miles or so of suburban sprawl. Don't know about Macedonia on 82 though - never been that way.

Yeah - the cooler needs better insulation.
We've lost a lot of the gang from last year. Hopefully, we'll get everyone back next year.

Scott et al,
My last day at work was yesterday and I'm in 110% porsche fixin mode. I fully expect to have it driving in the next 36-48 hours, and would be game for the caravan, unless I really do finish things up early and want to buzz into PA ~before~ the fest, in which case I'd be coming from the opposite direction.
So count me as a probable (coming from 75 & 696), and I'll update you if I'm going to PA first. Scott, I think you have my cell number, PM me if you don't.

Alright - have a revised route taking in to account jpk's suggestions. I will have two extra copies made up. One for DanG and one for Bill W. If anyone else is considering joining our caravan... I mean Porsche posse... please state so in this thread.
Dan - I think I have your cell. It's the 835 number, right?
Bill - do you still have the same cell number with the 330 area code?
We need to figure our pickup points and times. Here is my best estimate for now.
1) I depart Sashabaw/ I-75 at about 4:30.
2) Should be between 14 Mile to 8 Mile by 5:00.
3) Figure MI/OH border by 5:45 or 6:00.
4) Genoa / Oak Harbor (163) area by 6:30.
5) Milan / Norwalk (250 / 20) area by 7:00.
6) Brunswick (303) / I-271 area by 8:00.
7) Fest by 9:00
Let me know who is in, where and what time is best for you.

OK. We'll figure on a gas stop at Libbey Road. See you there. Which gas station do you recommend?

I'm 50/50 right now. SEMPCA is a bit apprehensive about having a tech insp. outside of a shop, particularly since its not local, but I'm not too worried about that. What does worry me though is my brake pads, they won't be showing up by tomorrow so I'm going to check tonight to see if I have enough material to make the trip.
If I can, Scott you want to meet up somewhere in Waterford and start from there.
BTW, same cell #
