Alright guys, here is my problem the car is hesitating. What i mean by hesitation, i mean when I'm on the gas, the car gets feels like I'm not on the gas. With the clutch in the RPMs fall and of corse the car slows. This would not be a problem i this was not a race car! ok, so it normally happens on right hand turns, but also happens on straights and lefts, but its MOST prominent in the right turns. I can say that its independant of throttle position as i have tried part throuttle though the corners and it still hesitates. Its not rpm specific, as it has happened everywhere on the rev range. However it only happens when the car is under load. So I cant test changes out in a parling lot, i need to be on the street (which almost resulted in a ticket) or the track. I spent all weekend trying stuff and this is a list of the parts that were changed.

AFM
coil
coil to cap wire
Dist Cap
DME
Fuel filter
hard wired the Fuel pump on

and with all of that there was no fix. I even removed all the fuses but the FP one in the mini fuse box (which is something that only pre 85.5 cars have) and other than some minor overheating (yea, the fans are wired to that fuse box) nothing changed.

I think the plans are for this week, to change the fuel pressure regulator and that other similar shaped thing on the fuel rail, AND get new injector harnesses. I need to order all that tomorrow.

While the 100th mechanic looked at it and shook his head, one said that it may be the clutch sensor. The clutch is "new" to the car so I figure maybe thats it.. but thats a problem i would like some help with.

What do you all think?

Oh sorry.. the car is an 84 and the mileage is unknown.

Could be a nummer of things. Could possibly be a sensor. My guess is that it would be fuel related, like the fuel is getting shut off. Mebbe a dying pump? Could be the regulator also. A fuel pressure gauge might be your friend, sept youd have to somehow put one inside the car because you cant monitor fuel pressure while driving from under the hood.

Well, might not be the problem, but while you're doing the fuel system, check out the fuel screen. It's inside the tank, and connects to the hose that connects to the fuel pump. If it's getting plugged you'll starve the engine even with a new fuel pump.

haha, somehow i doubt that, however how do i get to the screen? And even though I'm going to check the screen, wouldn't that make the car run ****ty all the time? not just speraticly?

Alright, so i have a few more questions

1) do i need the 944 altitude sensor? I took it off, should i put it back on?
2) The part numbers i pulled off the fuel pressure reg was 0 280 160 214.... that does not seem to be a valid 944 part number. Is that the wrong number?

Poor fuel delivery or worn AFS.

AFS? maybe, but its only under load and it does not happen all the time.

The clutch sensor is where the timing is set (or something like that) and the clutch has recently been replaced (within a year). So since the timing runs off a sensor that may be it? I dont know, so I'm trying everything i can, and a porsche mechanic (paddock racing in NY) said that "could" be the issue.

Yeah dude looking back on that, dont go take that screen thing out. Thats probally not it. Listen to what Socal said

Well i swapped AFM's and the AFS, was replaced on the one originally in the car.

but i have no idea... is there any way to check to see if its working?

oh.. another querk, the car nas no 02 sensor....

No o2 sensor would mean you're running the WOT map all the time. This would be pretty rich durring partial throttle and could cause the hesitation?

As dumb as this may sound, have you checked the spark plugs? If you're running without an O2 sensor, the plugs are probably pretty gummed up from running rich all the time...
