I would love to come and see all the 944's at Nelson but have some questions and reservations. I have two porsches; a 95 993 cab and a 944 with an LS1 V8 in it. Would either of these be welcome? I would not want to come if some of the porsche-only crowd would view it as inappropriate. So my question is, if you would be offended at the conversion car showing up, let me know as a reply or as a PM. Would be really cool to see all the cars and meet some of the guys on the list. If i dont bring the conversion car, i could bring the minivan or ...gasp.... the Mini.

Actually, we had a guy last year with an LS1. While a lot of us are under the same tone of "It's not Porsche" we won't deny the hard work that goes into making that conversion work.

Man, I would not feel bad at all about owning one of those! I would love to find a cheap 951 with a blown engine to do that conversion to, hell of a sleeper car......

the conversion IS a lot of fun but there are a couple of problems that one may encounter. The LS1's may cool slightly easier than the LT's according to anecdotal data only. Brakes are difficult once you remove the booster if you dont put some sort of vacuum accumulator on. You can still lock up all four, but it requires more leg pressure than i would like. ran the One Lap in the car this year and there was a guy from Texas with a 944T there and it was interesting the difference in his braking zones and mine. I will have to dig up his name and email him about his attendance at the fest. Doubt he is coming, but his car is really fast.

Your Porschev is 100% welcome! You'll have a lot more high-fives and compliments than the morons that might turn their noses up. Anyone that holds a $3000 car sacred has something goofy going on upstairs.

just a note to everyone about OHIO. it is one of the LEAST friendly car places on the planet. The entire state seems to funded by speeding tickets...so.....bring your radar detectors and watch out. During the one lap we transited from Savannah Ga to Nelson which meant we ran the entire span of OH from south to north. lots of tickets. one of the NSX's actually had to hide his car in the weeds at the hotel because the state troopers were cruising the hotel parking lots looking for the 140 mph nsx they had seen on the interstate.

agree- watch your speed anywhere in the state..
The fines are going up- and they are stopping people for 5 over the posted limit.. keep in mind- any cop has jurisdiction on the highway here- OHP, State, county, local.. Hell- I think the security guards in the Neon's can write you a ticket.
I have no issues with V8/ V6 conversions. I 'd love to drive one actually.

As the official 944fest welcome wagon, I say bring your V8 beast. Last year we even had a dyno class for those who used "alternative" power sources. I expect a high HP Buck V6 924 this year, I'm sure you will fit right in!
