So i need to get a front and rear '98 honda civic bumper painted generic honda green. well every frikin place i go to is wanting $250 a bumper. even maaco wants that much when they paint cars for $399. wtf?!

how hard is it to paint your own stuff, cause thats what im about to do.
anyone know any atlanta area shops that dont cost so much?

(slightly ot but i figure 944s get painted more often and theres more atl ppl here.)

Its takes much of the masking to paint the front bumper as rest of the car so you won't get overspray. The cost of paint for the rest of the car is not that much more. I am sure the place that charges you $250 for the bumper probably charges $1000 to paint the whole car.

If you do go the MAACO route, mask it off yourself. These guys are a bunch of crack heads when it comes to overspray!

Of course you could just put that money towards a gun and paint and have fun yourself...assuming a lot

uh, take the bumpers off and spray them. ALmost no masking required.

And if you don't blend it in, the color won't match due to fade. This is why you don't want to paint individual pieces unless you are a master painter who can blend paint by eye. I only have seen 2 guys who can do that.

they can get me paint, reducer or whatever, primer, hardener for primer, clear coat, and hardener for it for $200. shweet. someone in the ATL want to help me paint. food and beer...(root beer)

or you can have the paint scanned by a paint supply place and they can match it with fade in consideration. I used to run a paint store and i paint cars on the side. Doesnt take much to make it match- esp. not a 98!!!

Campeck, keep in mind that Maaco's $400 total paint uses different materials and methods than accident repair and smaller things like body panels. The cheaper full-car paint jobs are just that, and they use the cheapest paint around.

Or do what I did and give them nothing to mask off...

wow, i cant believe your maaco did that paint!

the maaco i went to had wet cars outside, and they had chips in the paint already.

Brian... that looks great, give us more details. Did you protect the interior? Has the paint held up well? What lessons did you learn? How much did they charge you? Does it look that good close up? Cmon man, give it up...Bruce

PS.... I have an NA that I HAVE to get back together and out of the garage before winter.

I once had a beat down and dirty 928, and for ****s and giggles I took it to a Maaco(black paint). They let the car dry outside IN A DUST STORM.....let's just say I had a little talking to for them. Lesson learned. I have seen borderline acceptable paint jobs from them. As long as you don't mind drips, and overspray....and that was with masking everything off!

You get what you pay for, and if you do it yourself you learn....priceless.
