The bottom bolt of the alternator has a backing nut on it as well, so you'll need to use two wrenches or a socket and a wrench to get it off.

Obviously you can remove the bolt with the alternator belt on, but you have to do it 1/4 turns at a time. Be patient, you'll get it.

easiest if you remove the belt and get to it from underneath the car, and like Rich said it has a nut on the back side.

I haven't done that in a while so I cannot recall the bolt size. I'm pretty sure it was larger than a 13 though.

Check www.clarks-garage.com , he has all the tools listed.

All the sizes are 8, 10, 12, 13, 15, 17, 19, and bigger. I can't think of any 7mm, 9mm, 11mm or 14mm or 16mm nuts on the car.

On mine, it's a 17mm. I have very few 14mm bolts or nuts.

There's a bunch of 14mm bolts in the engine bay I believe... I lost my 14mm socket and i got frustrated numerous times when I needed it, so that's how i remember.

Perhaps the PO put on a Standard bolt. I have found a couple in the car myself.

14mm? Where would that be on an early car? Or any of these cars, for that matter. I haven't run across one yet in any of my earlies. You must have un-original stuff in there........if thats even possible.
