parts business is in the toilet...and yea, it is a good predicter of things happening. also consider that for the most part, your average 944 is now owned by bottom feeders that are especially cheap. Happened with 914's about 7-8 years ago so it is a natural progression to 944's.

I know this is going a little off subject, but I believe he used car market can be used as an indicator when you look at the big picture. The high interest rates, record high personal and public debt levels, record high adjustable rate interest coming off "fixed" period, lowering housing prices (thus lowering the money "span" due to what people can borrow to LTV), energy prices, and other factors paints a pretty strong picture for me. The bottom feeders normally has a high propensity to consume compared to the wealthy so when the bottom feeders aren't doing well, it will affect the market. Normally, I am close to fully invested but now I believe its a good time to hold cash overseas as the U. S. dollar is taking a dump in value compared to foreign currencies and has been for a while. Check it out and ask around. How many people you come in contact with is better off financially compared to a few years ago.
With that said, I agree with what Nick said about the cycle of the 944 also.

I think the leading reason the parts market in down is that more and more of these 944's are getting to the the point of failing and getting parted out. The market is oversaturated with parts.
Even a few years ago a when a parted car came up the thread would go for 10-15 pages. Now there are 10-15 parted cars going at all times and the thread die out with 10 replies. The Ebay market is a poor indicator, I think the traffic on the forums is a little more accurate.
Supply & demand.

I wonder how many people have purchased parts on eBay that weren't much better than the ones they are replacing. Things like spindles, struts, control arms, transaxles, and PS racks are always suspect. I stick to simple stuff now like trim pieces and non-moving parts. Anything that will send my car over a cliff if it fails I buy new or from someone I trust on RL. RL IS the parts network. I've never tried nickg but he seems to always what someone needs with great prices. Todd has always come through for me in the past.

yeah I don't get the point in buying used parts, at least most mechanical things. Like what's the point in putting a used 20 year old starter in your car. There are people who even buy used water pumps etc.

Lotsa Canucks buying car parts from the states since our dollar surged.
The economy is like a waterbed... nice and flat when it's untouched... when you sit in it and make a big depression in the middle, the rest of the water slushes around to the corners... but there's still the same amount of money in it... unless someone REALLY heavy sits on it and breaks it and all the water comes gushing out.. that's like a stock market crash.. lol.,.
what were we talking about again? Oh yeah.. parts.. Well, I've been making a killing in tips lately.. so it's parts city for me... Escort Cup suspension, 968CS steering wheels, 968CS recaros, boxster shift ****, custom 3" exhaust... etc etc
