Amen.... I find it difficult to support local garages when they bend me over and... you know.
Take my 97 Jetta for comparison:
- Neuspeed Sport lowering springs
- Bilstein Sport shocks
- strut mount kit

$649 USD shipped to a US address (approx $725 CAD)

My local tuner shop was asking 1050 CAD + approx 15% in sales taxes = 1207 CAD without the front strut mount kit... hmmmmm wonder what I'm gonna choose.

I sell a ton of 928/944 parts, and my take is that the 944 crowd is by far a much younger, more 'cash strapped' group. That makes their dynamic all the more difficult. Seems the older car owner is way more likely to follow thru with car maintenance.
I wish I had a nickle for every 944 owner who said the money/paypal/etc. is on the way.
