Tools wear out or are destroyed after so many runs.
Smaller tools(badges etc) can be remanufactured as they can make more money off the items sold in larger volumes.

That is why the guys who create new and better parts for these cars should be worshipped.

We really are in a golden age of 944 ownership. Used parts are easy to find, since there's no resale value and it's more profitable to part them. Most parts are available from the factory as well. Just don't ask for part 944.500.901.02.

Body in White.

I know there are only a couple existing new wiring harnesses and engine short blocks left. Heads are NLA.
At some point, I will buy a new harness and short block. I don't think anyone will be shelling out the oneyfor the short block, except me because I'm just nuts like that.

To the guy who made the original post DT-1 parts aren't that hard to find. I have never had to look but my local donnelson Yamaha dealers to get any part I need. I was able to get a NOS horn for my AT1c. 944 parts also came from audi's and VW. So parts won't be a problem for a while.

Part of what originally attracted me to Porsche ownership was the parts availability.
What I am most impressed about is that you can still get so many new original interior parts for older Porsches (not that the reproduction ones are all that bad, either).

As for parts availibility, I recall a Pontiac dealer once telling me, more than 10 years ago, that it was the law that they had to ensure availability of body and crash repair parts (tail lights, grilles, etc.) for 10 years and engine parts for 25 years. Not sure how much truth there is to that, but it makes sense..

This thought of parts shortage or NLA worried me for a bit. However, since most of us are wrenchers, we can always figure out some aftermarket alternative or ghetto rig a solution with the right tools or a competent machine shop. I will eat these words when we run out of usable 944 engine blocks.

I just ordered a factory 17x9 Cup II rim. Rim damaged by tire shop. Shop is paying for new. Cost $1,000. Coming from Germany. One left.

If memory serves, this is US law. I'll wager that the EU already has, or soon will adopt a similar statue.

I'm not worried about keeping my car running guys, that wasn't the point. No doubt there will always be used parts, and better aftermarket parts. Maybe someday I'll want to build a more modern one, just trying to keep my first one original.

A look through snopes turns up nothing, but I call BS on this one. I think it's an urban legend. If someone actually knows of such a statute and can prove it, I'd like to see it. I say it's bogus.

My used parts supplier sells quite a few parts to PCNA dealers.

He told me the other day that the turbo exhaust manifolds are no longer available from Porsche.

At any rate, I still think were quite lucky at the amount of parts for these 15-20 year-old cars that are still available from Porsche.

Well good, it's not like they are something that are prone to breaking or anything. I think I'll hold on to my cracked set.

All this seems to make sense and adds up in my mind.
I think this may be at least partially true. Several years ago, I ordered the 951 workshop manual from a local dealer. He said he could take the order, but that it was on backorder, and that it would have to come from Germany, and there was a good chance that it would be a while until they had enough orders to justify another printing. After 9 months or so, I just gave up (found it on CD a month or so later).
