Default Oil leaking on exhaust pipe

ive found that my 944 is leaking oil onto the y-pipe, which of course is making smoke and a nasty smell. right now i dont have the means to get it up in the air and have a look underneath (a buddy is borrowing my jack stands) but im not confident that even when i do i will recognize the problem. judging by the picture, can anyone tell me where this leak is coming from? when i get underneath (possibly tonight) i will take some more pictures. please someone tell me its easy to fix, im strapped for cash!!!!

Befor the jackstands, take the car over to the car wash and blast the engine off, trying to find a leak on a dirty engine is much harder. Not to mention having to work on it.

Based on that location, i would check the rear cam tower seal..it is held on by the same bracket which has the ring for the rear engine hoist point. Its a cork gasket, $1.50 at the dealer (of all places) and is not tottally uncommon to leak. Also relativley easy to change, only 3 bolts.

If your sure it isn't the rear cam tower seal, could be the balance shaft gasket.

That's a pretty good sized leak. Judging from the position of the oil slick toward the bottom of the picture, I would be more inclined to guess rear balance shaft seal. Cam box gasket is the next most likely. This is easy to check -- just run your finger around the base of the cam tower. They usually start to leak toward the back of the motor first (i.e., near cylinder 3 or 4).
