Default Room for tall guys?

Just got my helmet in the other day, I can barely fit in the car. The only way i fit with out rubbing is to lean the seat back (i mean way back, to the point that safety is a concern). My question is, do sport seats such as recaro are cobreu , sparco lower the seating position to get me more room?
What setup do you have and or recomend?

I had a pair of early sport seats in my car where you'd sit well below the doorsill. I find that my late seats sit an inch or so higher. Might make the difference.

I have an 84 that used to have a crappy APC seat in it. While it was better than the stockers, i could not fit with my helmet on in the car. I picked up a recaro SPG, and it lowers the seat a LOT. I can fit fine (I'm 6'2'') but the helment hits the rool bar a little.

so yes, an side mount seat will get you lower in the car, so you can fit better.

It depends on the seat i think also. I know the Corbeau TRS seat for example you sit much higher up, i sat in a friends and my head was practically touching the headliner, i am 5'11''. I know most of the fixed back seats lower you considerablly.

are the fixed back seats the only ones that are side mounted? or can you side mount an adjustable?

I have Momo Rookies with the rails mounted directly to the floor and have a fair bit of room.

Oh, and I am 6'5".

hmm that would look hot, just take a page from the old gt40 book

As fot eh non-fixed back seats, you would need to call soem place and ask. I'm sure there are some seats that are lower than others. But I KNOW 90% of the fixed backs can almost be mounted to the floor.

I am 5' 7" and in my race car I sit so low I can barely see over the steering wheel.

That is with sparco pro2000 mounted as low as possible in the side rails and the rails direct to the floor. I also pulled the seat pad.

I take the bottom padding out of my Corbeau FX Pro and Corbeau Forza when I do track events...otherwise I ride too high. I'm about 5'11". Hope this helps

How about sourcing a spare sunroof panel and stripping out the lining. You could just swap it over when you are going to the track. I guess that would release and inch or so more headroom? Someone must have done it before?
