Default update?

ok- so now it's stopped the "stop-go-stop-go-stop-go" thing since i've capped it off with fluid.

but i STILL get the vibration/resistance when turning right. this doesnt happen as much/at all at lower speeds. if i'm running like......a 90 degree turn at......40-45 mph, then it isnt as evident. but on a big, high speed sweeper, i get resistance. it almost feels like there's no power steering when i go that way.

actually- that's almost exactly how it feels. as if i just lose power steering when i make a higher speed (sometimes as low as 60 mph) right hand sweeping turn.

i almost just want to take the belt off and run it without power steering for this weekend's fun run.

if i dont figure it out by then, that's probably what's going to end up happening.....

anyone have any ideas?

Aree you sure the tensioner rod is broken? Check and make sure that all the mounting bolts are intact on the PS mounts. The 83 started havibg a wobble and it was the tensioner had snapped agin and the PS pump mounting bolts were the only thing putting tension on the belt. I drove it with the belt off for about two weeks until I got the new tension rod. It was stiff at slow speed turns but surprisingly light at highway speed.

that's the thing, is that it's perfectly normal at low speeds.

when i'm parking, or doing anything like that, it's 100% normal.

then at higher speeds it gets very heavy when turning right.

i'll check under there again tonight, to make sure the tensioner is still intact.

i searched some previous threads and one said that the u-joints on the steering coupler could have siezed and made the steering stiff, but i havent found anything that makes the steering stiff only on one side, and only at speed.

i x-posted on the clarks garage forums, and someone also said the same thing about the u-joints on the steering coupler, but he didnt specify if it was only when turning one way.

how hard is it to replace/repair those u-joints. or is it a replace the whole steering coupler kinda thing?

Are you sure this whole thing isnt been made up as an excuse for your slow driving on the run this Saturday?

you're just mad cuz your car broke on the taco run.

if i would have gone any faster on that thing, those 928's would have fallen off the side of a cliff.

do you know how hard it is to pilot 6000 lbs of car around a corner?

As stupid as this sounds, but do you have fluid in the system? you would be hearing air being pushed around from the rack/pressure line while turning if you had low/no fluid.....

i just put fluid in yesterday.

overfilled it a tiny bit, as a matter of fact.

i want to see if i can drain it, then refill it with something that has a stop leak, or "rack seal" thing. like the lucas oil kinda thing.

is there a procedure for emptying the oil in there?

do i just disconnect one of the lines and hope it comes out, lol?
