Stripped CV cheesehead bolt
Stripped on of the 12 point bolts changing out my CV axles. Broke off an extractor inside of bolt. What are my options? Im so pissed, these things are usually a breeze.

Get the craftsman stripped screw removal tool kit. Comes with several sizes. Worked like a champ when I had a stripped flywheel bolt (same bolt as the CV joints I believe).

Serviced all 4 of mine, and I couldn't see why Visegrips applied on the side of the head would work it right out.
If you snapped the head off and left part of the stud in, then they're pointless.

I got it out! I was lucky this time... I got the little blade on my dremel and cut the little metal gasket right out from underneath it, and i was able to get it on the second try with the 12 mm hammered on.
PS - vicegrips were next to useless, though maybe im just not good enough to use them well in that little space.

Now I know why- I have someone take it in and out of gear as I rotate the wheel. Then I lower the car back onto a ramp and remove a few more bolts on the bottom of the assembly. I couldn't use them up above the axle.

Did you pound a 12 or 6 point socket over the bolt. And were they on the transaxel side or the wheel side of the axel? I am going to tackle this tomorrow afternoon. I originally slotted the bolt with a dremel in order to get it out with a LARGE flathead screw driver. But, broke the tip off of the screwdriver
