There were about 10 944's (of differing types) at Thunderhill at the last GGR time trial. We even had 5 -6 turn up at the Lotus club Thunderhill outing. About 5 were at Infineon in March -- they are out there but don't seem to be Rennlisters.
It was good to see the new 944's at the Alameda ax -- hope they continue coming.
PCA-GGR is now running HPDS at all time trials -- Car prep is the same as AX not Timetrial so cars not prepared for the track can still run.
I'll be at Buttonwillow Jun 24-25 and maybe 23rd. (But probably in the 964 not the S2) and we'll be doing Thunderhill again in July.

The way I see it is that there are plenty of people that track their cars and it's one of their more constant pastimes during the seaon. Then there are those owners that like to just show up and 'network' with other owners for the comraderie. I'm in the group that likes to drive hard on good roads with a group of responsible people and network. The track lovers and Fun Run drivers don't always share the same interests making an all inclusive Rennfest West event hard to organize. Serious track people will often avoid open events where noobs are on the same circuit as them...I can't blame them really. Getting back to a western venue, start small the first time and try to attract as many as possible. Trying to please everyone on the first go-around by offering something for everyone is going to be tough. With the price of fuel so high I think centralization of the venue site is the most important consideration. You hold it in the LA area and you pull a few of the NorCal folks but I doubt that the Pacific North West folks will drive that far. We have our fair share of 944's out here but we are extremely separated North-South by a hot 18 hour drive down I-5 or a cooler 36 hour drive on the Coast. The Monterey area would be a good central gathering point for a group GTG but still involve some serious highway time to get there for some people. I suppose there's always room for separate events in SoCal, NorCal, and the PNW but that wouldn't solve the full Western GTG people seem to be talking about here. Nothings easy I guess.

IMHO, at this time, most of us just needs track time. It doesn't matter whether the car is 'complete' (so long as it's in good running shape). It doesn't even have to a 944 (Miata's are cool too). Heck, take a rental car out there. Let's get out there more!

I will be taking off a couple months so my next tentative track date is a NASA Aug 5,6 at Willow Springs. Then more dates in Phoenix in October, Nov, and December.
For you nor-cal guys there is a 944 spee group starting to run up there. There are about 5-6 cars with most guys still in DE building skills for racing.

Kinda sad to read this entire thread. I'm sure nothing was initially meant to be disrespectful to Dan P. but it sure came out that way.

Wow! Chris, your camera is amazing!
I'm glad the day went without a major incident -- just Dmitry's radiator blowing out, and Chris and I getting speeding tickets on the way home for no good reason.
