I just picked up a 86 944 for my wife and yesterday i noticed the engine was ticking not like a rod knock but more like lifter noise. Is this common does anyone know what exactly this is or how to fix it it is realy annoying.

change the oil, make sure its 15w40. If its still there then you have a collapsed lifter or..?? Could also be noisey injectors.

Make sure its not the injectors firing. They tend to be quite loud on these cars.

If you are not use to being around the 944's, you are probley hearing the injectors as Travis suggested. They are pretty loud

would loud injectors mean they need to be changed? i can feel the ticking when i grab them.

thats the pentel inside slamming open and closed. IF they are not leaking then they are ok-inside that is. Its normal.
