dude, take your car and $2800 and fix it yourself. Also, most insurance companies don't care about aftermarket parts(most use them anyway and don't tell you) cough***i work in insurance**
how do you think so many people are running around with CF hoods?
i also ran over some stuff that fell off the back of a truck in one of my cars. The OEM 2 wheels he had to replace where $400 each plus $100 each in tires, after my deductable i paid $200 and had 4 new aftermarket wheels and tires!

That front valance doesnt even look that bad. It seems to be pushed down from the fender hitting it. I just removed mine and fixed 3 cracks that held that lower corner together. That part of the valance is very forgiving at worst you need a fender the rest you can fix wau cheaper than $1000

NO WAY! pfft the damage is minor, whocares get it fixed, not like your keeping the car to make a profit from it, and the frame is perfect!.
Turbos are just a burden to the pocket if yours are not deep.
I say keep the car and fix her up

The damage is pretty much localized to what you see.
The insurance guy said there is metal behind the fender that was bent back toward the engine and would need to be fixed.. the headlights operate normal.
I drove it home from the accident with the tire just scraping on severe turns

If I knew how to start a vote poll on this I would.. It seems like the majority goes to fixing it...
So, if I do that, I need to come up with a plan to avoid having a salvage title.. I will ask about the acceptance of aftermarket parts..
The insurance guy said only 1989 parts or later.. but I thought that part number is the same for the fender and valance on 1986 + .. am I wrong, or is there anyway the insurance agent would be able to tell what year?

The amount wasn't quite what I needed to fix the car, and I suppose I could have gone after them in small claims court for the rest of the money, but I didn't want to go through the hassle.
If you can still drive the car, and don't mind waiting a long time, and the accident is the other guy's fault, you're in a pretty good bargaining position.

goto the wrecking yard and get yourself a passenger fender and an air dam.
I see your hood doesn't line up straight with the body. Was this like this before? If not, you may need another hood since the impact may have caused some sort of 'bowing'

Tell him that any front valance and fender from ANY year 944 n/a from '83 through '89 will fit your car. Other than that, i cant give much more advice..as ive never dealth with insurance before.
BTW, i also vote to fix the car, every problem with it you listed earlier in the thread is fairly minor and could be addressed in a long day spent working on the car.

If insurance is going to total it. He can buy it back for repair. The car will have a salvage title, but if he's intending to keep the car, what does it matter? He can always use it for autocross.
