Default anyone know a bit about factory alarms?

with an ealry oxygen sensor, there is an orange cylinder that gets clamped to the firewall. the thick green wire from the wiring harness goes into this, and (on my car) has a thin black wire comign out from a very thick rubber boot. i have been checkign this area out for a couple months to see what i can do to fix my broken wire/orange plastic thing, but i decided to just splice the wire directly.
NOW, when i stripped the coating off of the green wire, it was like a cable or antenna wire(had sheathing, wire, sheathing, wire) the receiving end of this is just a solid bullet style connector that slips into the thick rubber boot. i didnt see any form of 2 different contacts. why is that wire like that?

another one: i found a loose wire around the clutch master and charcoal can hose area. it was a thickish red wire with a black stripe and i think a female spade connector. what does this go to?

also: my passener window switch only seems to work well when the car/weather is warm. what in the heck do i look for there?

i also have some wires hanging loose behind my fuse panels. are there any optional wires that are left loose if you dont have the alarm or any options?
if i give the color coding and connector styles, would anyone be able to identify them for me?

The O2 sensor wire is shielded to keep Radio Frequency Interference (RFI) from the ignition system from corrupting the O2 sensor signal to the DME. The center conductor is the signal lead and the braided conductor is the shield. Just use male and female spade or bullet connectors and you will be fine. The O2 sensor is grounded to the exhaust system, so there is no need for a separate ground wire.

The other wires you speak of being loose above the clutch master cylinder and behind the fuse box sound just like my 83. Those wires most likely were originally connected for the factory alarm.

one by the antenna is for...a power antenna. Many are no longer hooked up or replaced. Shielding is for O2 signal interference.

well, im the one that removed the antenna, and i removed all of the wires from the radio to the fender, including cable and added the 968 style. i didnt have the dash out when i first started to delete the antenna, so i thought i accidentally pulled some out of the fuse box.

caster, do you still have the 83? are the wires hard to see? if i wrote down what colors they were, would you be able to verify that you have the same?

heres the wires i have hanging and a description:
1.dual wires, thick green, thin black w/green, female bullet connector.
2.single wire, thick black w/red, female spade connector.
3.single wire, thin black w/white, male spade connector.
4.dual wires, both thin tan and tan w/black, female bullet connector.

thanks everyone,

anyone have a diagram that highlights the alarm system?
in the owners manual, nothing is stated except how to work it.
i figured it would have some fuses for it, and where they are.
in the haynes manual, there is no mention of alarm system, and it doesnt show up in the wiring diagrams for any of the years.
in clarks garage, i can find some color coding, but it is instructions to bypass the alarm, so im not sure if they would even be the same, since it highlights the wires to the alarm control box.
http://www.clarks-garage.com/shop-manual/elect-23.htm
thanks everyone.
