Killed a legend (the gods may frown upon me for this)
Was cruising along this morning on the 580 through the Altamont Pass on my way to the autox when I came upon a legend.......and it is a legend......but as all should know by now......you are not safe when in Andial's territory.......so I had to kill it.

Nope, its a Superbird! Did y'all actually run? He looks pretty casual in those pics and most of the guys I know that have megadollar rides like that would never actually run them hard.

yes superbird. in 69-70. i think the 70 had the scoop on the side. im willign to bet that might have only been a clone with a 383 in it. the prices they go for are just too high. in august, the mopar nationals are held in "columbus" at national trail raceway, and at night on the weekend, they all fry tire up and down brice road on the east side of columbus. joe dirt had one in joe dirt, and they had the car displayed on a trailor in 2002. rain last year kept lots put away. i wonder what engine he had, and how bad exactly did you "kill" it?

Thats a real one, by the way, most likely with a 440 in it. The giveaway is that the fender isn't notched where it meets the nose panel. Clones will pretty much always have a notched section there. The Superbird isn't a slouch car by any stretch of the imagination (at least in a straight line or on a n oval track), but a decently modded 951 could put a stock 440 Superbird on the trailer pretty easily.

Not so much bench here, I've driven a real Superbird and two Daytona's, including a hemi. I used to campaign a '68 Dodge SuperBee with a 383 in it and then a 440, and also owned a Dodge Challenger convertible with a 440. Fun cars, but not necessarily the last word in performance or reliability.

Darn nice Superbird! probably a 440 in it.
Plymouth made less than less than 2000 of these cars in 1970. Nascar required 1 car to be built for every Plymouth dealer there was for it to be considered a "production" car.
There were 3 motor options, 440 4bbl, 440 3 x 2bbl, and a 426 hemi
These cars in excellent shape with matching #'s go for $100k - 200K

to those asking....no we did not really race......this guy wanted nothing to do with me.....and actually I wasnt interested in racing......really I wasnt.....I just wanted to give the guy a thumbs up and basically acknolwedge that was a very cool car but he wouldnt even look in my direction and I followed along side him for a while.............
Im sure he gets challenged all the time in that thing......but you cant blame him for not wanting to race.......its just not worth it.......I mean imagine having that impounded and sold at auction because you were caught racing......yikes......
