Default DAMMIT! Massive Oil Leak

So I just finished putting the car back together after replacing the HG.
Started up, ran great! BUT (there's always a but) it is puking oil from the CAM TOWER. DAMMIT DAMMIT DAMMIT.
Stupid question after the fact. SHould I have used any kind of gasket prep before putting the gasket in place?
Thanks -- Pissed off in FLA.

Did you clean the mating surfaces of all oil /crud/old gasket? Did you use a small amount of sealant? If you answered no to either one, that would explain your leak.

It's the sides. The surfaces were clean, I did not use any sealant.
Can't get a new gasket until Monday. Any chance of using this one again?? Using sealant this time?

i think the gasket on these is specifically for keeping oil out, not for anything else. i'd say yeah, but i'm retarded, so i'd say be safe and ask someone else.

but my "educated" guess is yes.

Make sure it's cleaned up really well and not pitted. I never used gasket sealant on that part before and it has never leaked on more then one car. Good cleaning and inspection is the keep part. Maybe you didn't tighten down the bolts enough. Good luck.

i think the bolts are only 14lbs of torque, but make sure you put in all 35 or em, lol.
also there is a the cam main seal up there and on in the rear, or is it actually coming out where the cam tower and head meet?

Leak repaired...gave a significantly better cleaning to the surfaces and a tiny bit of sealant. All is well...tomorrow, we drive. (After I bleed the coolant.)
