Default Q about headgasket

I'm getting ready to finally do the head gasket on my '84 N/A, and ws wondering about thicknesses. If I deck the head, will it be problem to use a stock thickness head gasket?

I was able to et away with it on an older BMW to get a small compression ratio bump, but those engines weren't interference engines.

Don't shave it anymore than is necessary to make it true and you will be fine.

I believe you can shave up to .050 without issue. Possibly more. I'd recommend looking at an adjustable timing gear if you do that though. I have a head out for work right now that's being shaved as part of a performance build, but I'll have to check on the exact amount. There are other guys on here with shaved heads - some should speak up, I'll bet some are running .050 or even a little more.

I should note that I'm keeping everything stock. I finally decided not to go for a performance build right now due to budgetary constraints. Clearance is my biggest concern, and I'm not sure if the stock cam has enough duration and lift to cause much of an issue if the clearence is reduced through decking.
