I say go for it. I've seen them cheaper (~15k), though but maybe they are earlier cars. craigslist is a good place to shop in myt area. And it might be cheaper to get a convertible car in the winter. I, myself, would like to find a messed up boxter for cheap and fix it up. I've seen some really cool boxters with 18" or 19" wheels and big engines in them.

When did they get a 6speed engine and what's the difference between a boxter 1997 and 1999?

The Boxster got the 6 speed in 2000 but it was only availible on the S model(3.2 liter 240HP) the standard boxster(Now at 2.7 liters and 217HP) still had the 5 speed. There is really no difference in the 1997 and 1999( 2.5 liter 201HP) Boxster other then year and minor things like interior trim pieces, 18 inch wheels availbale as a option etc.

The S model has the 6 speed with the 3.2 engine, 2000 was the first year.

You know, the more I think about it, the more I like it. It would look GREAT with clear lenses on it....hmmm...so hard to choose...i just found another black one with tan interior that is less than this one...closer than this one...but is a 1997 vs a 2001

****UPDATE****

Okay, so I may have a job. And what is funny, is I called about a Boxster they have on their lot. He said if I get the job, he would of course work the numbers, as long as I was ok with them still getting some profit. Its already at a great price at 18,500. It's a 2000 model with 60k on the odometer. PPI was passed with flying colors. Not a ding, scratch, fade, or bump on the car to be seen. The seats look brand new. It is silver over Terracotta....and is just gorgeous.
