Question How to get 944 lowered?

Hi
Do you have any idea?
Is that true there is a simple way to get 944 lower on the rear axle?
Where to buy lowering front springs for 84' 944?
Do you have any opinions about Weltmeister springs?
Thanks

I had 200# Weltmeister springs on the front of my car and the rear was/can be lowered by using the adjustment cam. I personally loved the way it sat, rode, and handled.

Hi PTK,

I was on last PCP meeting, but could not regognize You. Have You been there ?
It is possible to lower real axle by changing the position of torsion bars. Front requires spring replacement. Going that way, You will experience some problems like softenig / floating as original shock absorbers are designed to higher position and suspension travel.

I think the best way is to buy complete setup. H&R has complete adjustable front struts and rear shocks equiped with springs. 8 kPLN here in Warsaw. I think it's a fair price for it's quality.

How about to have couple of beers ? Are You visiting Warsaw somtimes ?

PS. As far as I am concerned You have 2.5 150 PS motor, same as mine. I have designed my own performance chip to improve it. Interested in 170 PS setup ? My no is 502 188 323.

You can get up to one inch of drop on the back (some say .5 - 3/4 of an inch...but everyone i know who has done it got about one inch) by adjusting the eccentric nut on the trailing arm. The bolt is torqued very high however, you will need a fairly powerful impact gun to get it off. Others have been sucessful with larger breaker bars. If your dropping the car all the way, you do not need a 36mm thin wrench..only the correct sized impact socket. If you plan to fine tune your setting, like if you dont want a full one inch drop then you will need the wrench. I had some trouble finding a wrench that big at auto and tool stores, but any local bicycle shop should have a headset wrench in 36mm readily available.

As for dropping the front, like Kyle said you can go with Weltmeister lowering springs which seem to give you between 1-1.25 inches of drop, or go with adjustable ride height spring perches in the front which give you a bit more adjustability. If you plan to keep the stock torsion bars in the back, i wouldnt go more than 200-225lbs in the front.

Also note, if your dropping the car more than an inch, you should address the problem with the balljoints and control arms in the front binding.

I've got the SP-200 lowering springs on my car. Lowered the rear as described above. Pic and talk here:

https://rennlist.com/forums/924-931-944-951-968-forum/195025-is-this-too-low.html

Something to consider is not being too stiff in front (250+) without bigger torsion bars in back. The 200# springs work well with the stock torsion bars on my car.

I was going to suggest those, but i am pretty sure the Rennbay kit dosent work with the early steel arms. Im not sure what options they have other than constantly checking and replacing as need be (its much easier and cheaper to change the balljoint on the steel arms).

One more question...
If I have no AC and any another options should I Buy 200lbs springs or 250lbs will be better? I mean if I buy 250lbs springs the car wont be higher than on 200lbs springs??? Or maybe on 250lbs springs the ride will be harder and on 200lbs softer?
Thanks.

PS: Tkacki you have a cold one from me

250 might be too stiff for road driving.

I've got the 200# springs and am very happy with the handling. Bumps, cracks and holes are pretty harsh, though. I'm always trying to dodge them. With 250s the front will be much stiffer than the rear and cause more understeer.

Stiffer in the front will cause more understeer.

I have 200lb springs on the front of my car, the ride isnt to bad with Koni's set on full soft, even on medium its not bad. That might be because ive gotten used to it however.
