Hershey from Illinois. 16 hours each way

Colorado from Illinois. 20 hours "" ""
Not Exactly cross country. I think Hoffman has us all beat.
I trust it, but still bring tools.

I have done it. The S has gone from Sea to shining Sea when I got orders to San Diego From North Carolina. Then turned around and went back when the orders were canceled two weeks later. The 951 was purchased in Oregon and driven back to North Carolina, where I arrived, spent one night got up the next morning, picked up my buddy Dan and drove to Hershey. The cats at the gate saw the license plate and were amazed. Did you drive all the way here? they asked. Why yes I did with a side trip to North Carolina. I think we won the "driven the farthest to get the Hershey" award that year. I take tools and don't worry about it.

i'd take it on a trip, but a few issues present themselves
1- If i go anywhere, it's to Mexico, and i am NOT taking my Porsche to Mexico. not no way, not no how.
2- I dont know that many people outside of California and the southwest.
3- I wouldnt take my 951 from say.....sacramento to DC, because
A-I like the east coast, but it's too goddamned far
B- I hate driving in NY and DC and big places like that. too many people WAY too many people.
I might do a southwest tour this summer, or maybe fall. or maybe i'll visit my aunt in Texas ~thanksgiving and make a Cowboys home game

I drove my car from Boston to Red Hook when I picked it up. Haven't had the chance to go anywhere since it broke, but I intend on going to Cape Cod as a little "dry run" to seef its ready for distance driving and then I've been thinking Texas or CA

No long trips, but I'd love to do one. My parents were mad when I drove it an hour and a half one way to New Hampshire-that's probably as far as I've gone with it.
It just seems that every time I get in the right direction towards building a reliable car for a long distance run, there's something else I think of. I was thinking of changing the fuel lines and I'd be set if I wanted. But my clutch is original and at 125k, I don't know. It would likely last 5-6k more miles of highway/rural driving, but what if it didn't? Then there's the issue of a possible headlight switch or alternator brush failure-simple enough to fix, just have to get in there with parts. My spare is probably no good at this point, so I'll look for one wheel sometime and make a fullsize spare of it. The problems are more "what if?" problems, rather than actual problems right now. It would suck to have a gas fire in Nebraska or somewhere far from here.
My breakdowns have consisted of 2 blown cooling hoses in parking lots at separate times. That's taken care of- all hoses are <2 years old now. Also, the injectors froze over after me not storing the car with 1/2 tank of gas, making the car die on the side of the road. My fault there. Then my HG decided to let go overnight in my driveway, and that's fixed.
It would be tempting to change the oil and just do it in August when I have some $, but I'm a pessimist when it comes to trusting some things.

I drove my car home from Baltimore, MD, then two months later I drove it to Utah and back, around 5000 miles. I had not one bit of trouble, except it didn't like the low octane fuel out west.
