Default Put 4 speakers in the 944 today.

Well. Im putting this up as a reference for those who are looking to put new speakers in their cars. I put in two different pairs of speakers.

Front : Pioneer TS-G4641R (http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/pn...219756,00.html)

These fit perfectly in the front. Not to deep to fit in the door.

Rear: Infinity REF6412CFP (http://www.infinitysystems.com/caraudio/product.aspx?ProdId='REF6412CFP'&Ser=REF&Cat=MEL)

I put these in the rear. They fit perfectly also. Although they DID NOT fit in the front. Way to deep.

Thoughts... The pioneers have better bass, due to the larger cone i suppose. And the infinitys have far better highs. I like this setup because you get the best of both worlds.

So there. Thats what fits. The alpins 460s fit also, and sound damn good for 4x6s. I helped a friend put them in his 924 a while ago.

Oh yeah. Thats 1k posts for me.

They sound great. Bass is lacking a little bit, but I supposed thats to be expected with 4x6s. Im used to having two 12" subs right behind my head (took them out, too heavy ) But all in all they really sound great. Cant complain at all.

I have a similar setup, just Blaupunkt 4x6's in the front and the same Infinity plates in the back. It indeed lacks base, but sounds pretty good even at loud volume.

So the door 4 X 6s (Pioneer) fit with the factory grills on with no cutting or dremelling required? If so, I'm gonna be on the lookout when I find my new car!

Yup, They fit great. The factory grill doesnt sit as flush with the door as it probably should, but its really not noticible at all. I can take pictures if you would like.

As long as you can put the stock grills back on with all 4 screws I'm happy...or will be. Thanx!

Were the rear speakers hard to put in? Did the quarter window have to be taken out? I did my fronts last year and also used Pioneer. They were the only ones I could find that fit with the stock grill. My rears are ok but after 23 years they are lacking a bit.

I did the rears without taking the window out... There were no speakers in the rear, so i figured someone must have taken the old ones out at some point. The panel came off without much problem, the vinyl was tucked under the rubber by the window but not attatched, so it must have been off before. Definatly not hard though.

I have the Apline sps 460a's, they fit well, but I dont think they sound that great. It could just be I want more out of a 4x6 then should be expected. How would you compare the Pioneer TS-G4641R to the Aplines, sound and fitment?

I have those Alpine's up front too, I think they are great...of course, over stock, they are amazing!
I have Boston Acoustics FX7e's in the rear, I think they are fine. Unless you have the 10 speaker option or custom door panels, your sound isn't going to be the best.

thats where i am, i had 4 10" subs, added a ton of weight and i lost interest, now i am quite happy with my "stock" setup! its like i can concentrate more on the fun of driving it than the fun of blasting music. i'm much happier. oh and i needed the money! lol

I installed the Alpine SPS 460a's up front and they sound great. Has anyone installed the Alpine SPS 46c2's in the rear? I am going to add a Fosgate punch 2 in that slick KLA subwoofer box that fits in the side wheel well cubby so I don't need great bass from the rear seat speakers, just nice midrange and treble

I have Boston Acoustic compoments in the front and Infinity plates in the rear. I also have the KLA sub which goes in the rear cubby on the passenger side of the car. That helps big time. I have however been opting not to play the stereo as much as I enjoy listening to the engine. I actually have taken the sub out to autocros and don't put it back in unless I am taking the car on a long trip like to the track.

Alpine 4x6s all around, and I'm pretty happy.
