I want more power from my S2

I'm not sure the 968 engine has that much of an advantage over the S2 engine. The torque numbers for the two engines are very close and I suspect that the higher redline of the 968 engine accounts for a lot of the horsepower difference. The torque difference is more indicative of the real world power advantage of the 968 engine. And it's a small difference - less that 20 ft-lbs peak I think. The 968 probably has a flatter torque curve due to variocam, but there's only so much you can do by diddling the cam timing. They're both 3.0 liter 16-valve engines with the same compression ratio. So I would expect the 968 to have a small advantage over an S2 in real-world driving but not drastic.
The new 968 superchips add almost 30hp to the 968 (not BS) and the performance gap is even bigger. The 968 is only negligably heavier than the S2. The 968 is actually LIGHTER than a 951. Yes, we have actually weighed all our cars on an accurate scale to validate Porsche's numbers.
I fully agree with "DoYouSmellGas's" comment's about the pro's of reducing weight, but make sure it doesn't put you in an class in which you will not be competitive... Additionally, it's really easy to remove 200+lbs from the back of your car, but, you've know upset the "50/50" weight balance, from say, 1450/1450 to about 1450/1250 or "55/45"
I can also identify with using a "racey" car as a daily driver... and how much a pain it can be.. racing seats, rollcage, lacking insulation, harder suspension... great for the track, but makes city driving less enjoyable.

Has onyone experienced the sound level of an S, S2 or 968 with no cat and a comp muffler? Does it break glass?
Rich, Is there a "superchip" for an S2?

i put a chip in my S2 and I love it. It pulls harder after 4K and the dead spot between 2.5k-3k is gone I love it. When I get to KY in June i will take you for a spin if ya want

Yes - ear shattering
On my 968 engined 944, I run a lindsey 3" exhaust with lindsey hi performance cat and a magnaflow. earplugs are required even at street speeds. When other racers at the track complain they can't hear their engines when they're behind me, it's loud.
Seriously, after two races this weekend at VIR, I'm off to see the audiologist tomorrow about some custom earplugs that will work better than the foam drug store ones.

Get a chip and drop some weight - those are your best bets. And listen to Rich Sandor, keep it at 50/50. If you're struggling with the 50/50 (taking too much out of the back), you could always do the 928 thing and move the battery to the trunk...

my car still handles well, with the rear seat removed both top and bottom with carpet in place. all the tools jack and spare tire. as well as othe rtings like my door pockets(Soon to have arm rest gone and have RSA door pulls) I may also relocate the battery to the truck. And a let me tell ya, with the chip and weight reduction its quicker then I thought it would be.

But I know there are other tuners out there that sell them. I think Weltmeister does.

This debate has gone over and over a million times on the S2. If you want to make HP it can be done and it can be done cheap even without nitrous (altho way more power with n20). Just learn about motors and start doing work and testing. I use 2 things for testing for improvments and thats Dyno/DragStrip.

The factory "firehawk" chip is supposedely the best chip for the S2. Even at that, I doubt you'll get more than 10hp at the wheels which is already worth it. Combine that with a straight pipe and some 4 in 1 headers and you've got some relatively inexpensive power. You'll hit a wall after that without spending big bucks. I have a firehawk chip, but haven't tested it yet since it's still winter down here. I'll let you people know how things work out.

I would not say it's a drastic advantage, but it is much more than just a "small" advantage.
Let's see. I know that you'll need the head, the cams, probably the valves and the rest of the valve train, and I know that you'll need a 968 DME to control the variocam part of the thing. Anything I'm missing?
Of course, I'm sure that you could perform an entire engine/computer swap, but that would be a lot more money for sure.
Just wondering.

I have the same chip 944Pete had in his S2, i think it was a firehawk clone. It definately makes the car smoother. I had an SFR 2.5" cat back now. I will be a doing a dyno this spring. I've considered SFR headers as well.
The rear sway has helped the car a lot. I autocross and hearing people say the LSD makes THAT much difference makes me interested. LSD, M030, and the deeper sport seats are the only things that werent ordered on my car. I'm slowly adding the m030 parts. How can I go about getting an LSD unit??? Can you just install the LSD, or do you need to replace the whole transmission?
