Default Help! troubleshooting new engine start-up

I have a complete rebuilt motor, turbo, clutch, etc and I cannot get the motor to start up. I have checked for spark, jumped the DME relay, checked timing, and have a charged battery with good voltage. My issue is that when I start the car it turns over a small amount and the the starter seems to have a drain on the elec. system, barely cranking over. I have inspected the grounds, with a new neg. cable from battery to belhousing. The starter seems excessively hot/warm. Is there any other things I can try to attempt to get this car to start? I have turned the motor over by hand and the resistance is normal. Help...

This sure sounds like:
a bad battery
or a bad positive cable from the battery to the starter
or a bad ground for the starter.

Try jumping it. Place the negative jumper cable on your motor not the battery.
Make sure your starter mounting bolts are tight.

I will try putting the neg. charger cable on the block. I also noticed after inspection that the starter soleniod plactic end has a crack in it. The starter bolts are tight, the two cables that run down to + starter sige look good, along with the red wire...

I checked a few things. I tried to start the car with the -neg charger cable on the motor for ground and the battery draw while attempting to start is still excessive, "stalls out" the starter. I will get the battery tested/replaced (8 months old) and look into a starter soleniod or a complete starter. Does anyone have anyother advice or suggestions...

Have you tried to start it with a jump from another vehicle?

It sounds like it is your battery or connections to the starter. However I had a hard time starting my 944 na after a rebuild because the injectors froze up after being idle for about a year. Had to soak them in warm oil and still had to replace one.

Are you sure the engine can turn over by hand?

If the starter is getting hot, then I think it's a pretty good bet that the power is getting there. If you are sure the engine turns over with normal resistance, I would go after the starter itself. When you turned it over by hand was it with or without plugs? When I do my timing belt I pull the plugs out to make it turn easy. By easy, I mean you can easily turn it over with a 1/2" drive rachet and appropriate socket. Once you get past the valve spring resistance, it should turn with almost no force at all.

Yeah, I am turing the motor over by "hand" with a standard length 1/2 ratchet, normal revolution.

Where are you? I have a spare starter that should fit that you can borrow for a test...
