Default Any go to a race school?

I am setting up a bachelor party and am thinking about doing the 1/2 race school at Pocono raceway. Anyone do a 1/2 day race school or the Richard Petty Experience? Are they worth the $400-500? Before you all tell me to do DE events, I do, but am looking for a fun day for some buddies who aren't Porsche owners. Thanks for any advice.

I did mine with Racing Adventures. You get to drive either corvette kit cars or cobra kit cars. They only had the cobras when I did it, and they have the 302 from a mustang in them. They sure go like stink...
My course was $1800CDN, and took place over 2 days. It was a great experience, and it taught me a LOT. I urge everybody to take a course like that.
They started at an absolute beginner's level. They taught racing lines, basic car control, weight balance, etc. It would be good for non-racers.

Id love to go to one of these things but I find the prices postively outrageous. I dont care if Richard Petty spit-shines my Florsheims.

For $500 you could fly round trip to Vegas and spend 3 days at a 4-star resort on the strip with free breakfast and a pair of tix to see The Amazing Jonathan.

Well, for my grad. present (both college and Paramedic school which is over 900 hours of work in itself) I am going to ask/get a couple days of D.E. down at Mid-ohio in my turbo so I can learn to actually drive it the way it is suppose to. After 4 years of college and a year (900 hours of class/ER time) my parents wanted to give me something special. I thought of money or trip but racing school would be WAY better for me because I am VERY much into it. I guess it comes down to what you want to do. Racing school is NOT cheap at all but you do learn quite abit about racing. If plan to get into racing quite a bit, then I would say go for it, otherwise take UDPride advice and plan on a trip somewhere with friends or something of that nature to really enjoy the moment!

How about some time at an indoor Kart track? (not the amusment park stuff, the proper indoor racing Karts. Fun, competitive and safe enough for any skill (brain) level.

Plus about $1000 should get you the entire track for a couple hrs.

And you don't need to get all the extra people involved that makes for a safe, but expensive track event. Corner workers, safety crews, etc. Also, CIR PCA runs at least two to three events at Putnam.

I actually just joined a kart league at F1 Boston. Its a ton of fun and anyone in the Northeast should check them out. www.f1boston.com. Thought the 1/2 day race school at Pocono would be different than the standard golf/strip joint bachelor party crap. There is just something special about getting out and onto a NASCAR speedway that adds to the experience.

Hey, do whatever floats your boat. I personally wouldn't be interested in going around in an oval. No matter how fast. Pocono also has road course driving schools. I think Bertol Roos still has a school there. That is much more fun and directly related to street driving. I guarantee you will be a better driver after doing that.

StoogeMoe, I think you would very quickly change your opinion if you tried oval track racing. There is a kart track near tampa that serves a practice track for quarter midgets. On tues. nights they set up some go carts and let you go out and race with your buddies. I have raced on road courses, and have done some of the indoor type karting. Oval track racing is indeed different, but is just as fun as any other type of karting/racing. If it's racing, i'm all about it. H3ll, i'll go out and race lawn mowers in an oval if somebody wants to set it up.

We are definately thinking of doing the road course school, not the oval track. Did a DE event a few years ago at Pocono. It was my first event and I of course loved it. Thought the 1/2 day school would be a fun way to go out before the wife starts with the "that's too dangerous" crap. Kramermic, I am with you. I remeber racing lawnmovers when I was in high school. We had one of those big Sears jobs and some kid in the hood had a little go kartish mover. I rolled right over him and boy did he get in a heap of trouble when his dad came home. How to tell your dad the lawn mowers broke because you got bump drafted by a Craftsman.
