What motor oil do you use?
I am new to the maintenence of high revving engines like this. I have the the 2.5 ltr 8 valve motor.
I was seriously tempted to get 20w50, especially after all the trouble Ive had with oil leaks.
Basically, I am confused on which oil to run. My car takes awhile to build oil pressure with wahtever the last owner had in it, so a heavy oil might be damaging?
Okay, I'll STFU. What do you do?

20w50 is whats recommended for our cars so no worries there.....I would be more concerned over your "oil pressure taking a while to build" than the weight of oil you should use.....

I run Shell Rotella 15w40. That's what my daily car has had since it was new, THAT WAS 341,000 MILES AGO!!! I'm the second owner. I did rod and main bearings at 310K, I honestly could have put them back in and ran them.

Obviously it has treated you well!
My oil pressure takes up to 15 seconds to build from a cold start, 3-4 on a hot start.

your oil pressure gauge should peg immediately when you start your car.....15 secs from a cold start sounds horrific !!

+1 for 20w50.
What oil filter are you using? Does it have an anti-drainback valve? If the oil drains out of the filter that could account for your delay in building oil pressure.

You've got a problem somewhere. Correct filter on the car?

Usually i run 20W-50 during the summer months ago, keeps me down to burning about two quarts every oil change about, so figure a quart every 1200-1500 miles. I used to run 10W-40 for the winter seasons, but switched to 10W30 this time instead (for no particular reason). Bad idea, ive burned almost two quarts at about 1500 miles. Its also been unseasonably warm (30-40 degrees) this winter.

Yeah, I'd have to say that is a drainback issue. I have run the STP, Deutch and now the valuecraft(or whatever thay have now) from autozone with out a problem. Readily available for someone who runs 300+ miles a week. I have also run the Porsche and other OE brands. I did have an issue with loosing the prime in the system one time, it was a Porsche filter on there at that time.

Actually, I think I looked that the Puroilator filters, IIRC, no check valve. Look into the center port and see if there is a spring, also there should be a rubber flap covering the outer holes on the inside of them.
