Default Help diagnose my symptoms: Strange miss / car shuts itself off...

Hey guys,

Does the DME relay go bad often? I replaced mine less than 6 months/4,000 miles ago. Now I'm getting a symptom that *seems* to be similar to the ones you get with a bad DME relay.

My car has a strange "miss" very intermittently. I will be cruising and all of a sudden it feels like the fuel pump shuts off for a split second, then it comes back on...similar to what would happen if you took your foot off the gas for a split second, then abruptly mashed the pedal again and it throws you back in your seat.

Also, the car will sometimes just shut itself off in a similar manner, usually while freeway cruising. I will look down and the tach will be at 0, and I'll have to crank her in neutral (@70mph) to start her up again.

And today when I came out to my car after running an errand (the car was still warm), I cranked her for a good 15 seconds and she wuoldn't start. After a second turn of the key, she finally fired up. Almost seemed like it wasn't getting fuel, but I can't say for sure because I haven't checked anything yet.

Could htis be some sort of ground, or wiring to the fuel pump going bad? Or is this textbook DME relay? Please advise...I have 1/2 tank of 100 octane in her, just waiting to get to the dyno!

check the connections for your ref. sensors on the back of the intake and perhaps check they are working correctly w/ an ohm meter.

Definately look at the crank sensors. I had one fail so that it would allow the car to start when warm. Let it cool and it started right up.

The dying while driving issue is weird though.

Had nearly the same issue... turned out that the cooling fan relay was sloppy loose and would have an issue on road bumps, etc.

I'll look those things over. Thanks!
