Cam Chains in S, S2
Where can we purchase the plastic CAM Chain guides??? I did a search couldn't find a source. Thanks in advance.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I have thought of a reason for the cam chain pad failures in the 944S/S2 v.s. the 928's and that is the differences in vibration between the two motors.
A lot of plastics typically get harder with age or as they get "worked" and less ductile. Less ductility means they can't handle impacts or deformation as well and this leads to cracks.
A high frequency buzz on the plastic is like constant impacts and may eventually cause it to harden and crack at the mounting points.
My guess is that the interval for the 928 will be double the interval for the 944S/S2 motors, or well into the 200K mile region.

928s have less stiff valvesprings and the heads probably do not get as hot. Be that as it may I think the 928 cam chain pads are starting to fail, age and heat is catching up to them.
I have two pads from my local dealer I plan to put in my 928, they were $14 or so each.

I got mine last 1/2 of last year at: http://www.944online.com/ Talk to Ian if you can. He's very good to work with.
That being said, don't expect to be able to find a bottom pad (I couldn't), it appears that only the top ones are around, and a real bargin at $45, considering the damage a worn oen would cause.
