Face the facts, we are all addicts.
In my garage is the firebird convertible and the S2. I want a smaller house so i am trying to sell the firebird.
in my driveway is the GTO with 7k miles and two years left on the lease. next to it is my wife's rendezvous with 3k miles and 2.5 years on the lease.
my buddy calls to BS and mentions his wife has a friend with an 89 RX7 cheap.
.
.
Thats all it takes, how cheap, what color, blah blah. only about 70k miles, clean but some small damage, presentable, original owner, family has a bunch of cars and $$$, perfect station car.... oh its an automatic.
well for 700-800 i said i would probably take it. WTF am i going to do with another car? i said i would put it in my parents driveway for two years and use it when the GTO lease is up. autocross beater? track car? nah, thats what the S2 is becoming. Daily driver? nah, the gto is nicer and has blizzaks. weekend hauler? nah the rendezvous has plenty of room and is lesed. toy? thats what the firebird, gto and s2 are. what will it be? what can it be? sell it for a 200 profit? geez i did that 20 years ago as a kid in college. im supposed to be a professional. if i work a couple hours i will make more than if i spend 20 hours trying to sell it at say 200 profit.
it is an addiction, there is no logic. and you have the same addiction.
it is an addiction i tell ya a friggin addiction. where is nancy when i need her "just say no"

You nailed it Tom. I've lost count of the times "the deal" has presented itself...much like your rx-7. Mostly in my own mind but that's the beauty of our addiction. Fortunately, I'm trying..desperately trying...to finish some of the many projects I've started. I've dug myself a big hole but I'll get out!

I am the opposite of that. I'm having to sell the 951 because a baby is on the way. I shed a tear everytime I think of selling it.....It's done so the shopping for a 928GT or 968 begins......Maybe in a few years I can drop off my new son at kindergaten in a newer Porsche....addicted indeed.

Bottom line, we are all big kids and want it all. Quit dancing around it and making excuses, it's no addiction, we'll just never grow up, we're men.

Right now I have four vehicles, two are necessary, two are for play. I'm planning a new garage for the spring to get my last two under cover (the daily drivers, the Sebring and the 944 already live in a garage). I've been looking at a Taurus SHO, an old DeSoto, Lincoln LS, a '54 Dodge M-37, a couple of Beetles and I've been keeping my eye out for another Porsche. I don't need a garage, I need a warehouse
I can't decide if I want to buy another car or really go to town on my F-150. I don't want to do too much to my 944 as it is a lower mileage original, but I wouldn't mind picking up another Porsche to play with. My wife kinda wants a four wheeler, like an Explorer, to go camping and trail riding in.
Its not an addiction, its a way of life.
BTW, Tom, what do you want for the Firebird?

i for one would have to say that i am not addicted to cars. I mean yeah when i was 16 i had a mustang, which lead to two other mustangs, a volkswagon and a truck, and a 64 rivey, then a 71 nova, then a dakota w/ hydraulics, and a couple hondas, and a cutlass, and a 53 bel air, and maybe another chevy truck, oh then the first supra, then a 69 firebird, then there was the nissan and the nissan truck, oh and the supra turbo, and the eclipse and the harley and then the FIRST porsche, then the 924, the two 924s' and the 914, and my truck and oh wait then i traded for the first porsche again..... nothing excessive.

Uranium - 20k for the firebird, open to offers.
as for the desoto, the prior owner of my house has the largest collection of toy taxicabs. his collection is on permanent loan to the childrens museum because his two aparments were too cramped. on my lawn is a taxicab shell used in the movie the wiz.
in the garage was the 49 desoto painted like a taxi cab and used in the cyndi lauper video true colors. the taxis came with the house. i contaced the cyndi lauper fan club and offered the car to them to raffle and we could split the proceeds. they didnt understand the business motive and declined. they also didnt have a place for it.
i contacted a guy in hemmings from NJ Jerry McSpirit. he had a desoto advertised. i asked him about my car, he told me he had the same car in primer needing "very little" and would sell it to me for 3k. i sold him my desoto for all of $200 and bought an edelbrock intake for the firebird with that money. that was 1999.
