Default is mixing oil types okay?

I just put in 5q of Mobil 1 10w40 regular dyno oil and ran out

The only thing I could find for the last 2q is some Mobil 1 5000 10w40 dyno. Its for 5000 mile changes instead of the regular stuff.

Would it better to put the Mobil 5000 (silver bottle) or some Mobil 10w30 like the 10w40 (blue bottle junk)?

Thanks!

better to stay with the synth/dino mix insted of mixing w-40 and w-30.

it just dillutes the effect of the synth oil...and makes dino oil better? who knows. oil experts will tell you this way and that way, but fill up with the same grade even if it's not the same (dino or synth), and just fix it when you get to the next oil change.

from what i know......ok, that's too much tech for my brain, back to OT

edit- ride your bicycle to the store and buy a case of mobil 1 and an oil filter and do the oil change.

ok, so if it's a synth/dino blend, then what's the problem?

either way, 10W-40 and 10W-40 mix better than 10W-40 and 10W-30.

the mobil 1 website says 5000 isnt synth. so if the oil you're starting out with isnt synth, what's the problem?

as long as they're the same grade/rating/whatever oil's measured in, it's ok.

Mixing corn oil and peanut oil may not be the best idea for your Porsche.

What Juan says.

Just finish the job with the same weight oil and you're good.

If you have the stamina to come up with 5 quarts, I say give it a try. If this involves you and a bunch of your buddies, spare us the details.

i think mixing love oil with mobil 1 is bad, it always makes you think you've blown a headgasket.

Mixing is fine. Blended mixes have been sold for years (dino and synth). My families Dodge Caravan has been getting mixed grades for years, it burns less oil than most of its brethren. It usually gets some random mix of 10W40 and 20W50. Its never gotten synth or preblended stuff before, thats too espensive for an 88 Caravan

what exactly happens when yhou mix two different oils like 10w40 and 20w50??? Do you get 15w45? or does it ruin the oil, etc?

Changing your oil regularly is the most important thing,
It doesn't matter if you mix brands or weights.

I mix 0w40 and 15w50 in the M3 to get about 6w44. Couldnt find any 5w40 which is what I wanted to run in the winter...works fine.
