Default Wide wheels on an NA?

how wide of a tire can an NA take? Are 265's out of the question? I might be able to pick up some 18" turbo twists but not sure they will fit. Thanks!

The N/A will take the same wheels/tires as any other pre-87 car out there (83-85.5 N/A, 85.5 - 87 N/A, 86 Turbo). Doesn't answer your question, but might help in searching.

Anyways, I imagine about the best you'll fit is 8" front and 9" rear (unbalanced, but the 'widest' you can get, 'optimal' is probably 8" front & rear). That may require you to roll the rear fenders though depending on your tire choice. Those wheels will allow 225-245 in the front and 245-265's in the rear if I'm remembering correctly.

What year is your N/A. I have a 1988 and have 17 inch sport classics on mine and i think they are either 255 or 265s in the rear. I know they do look really wide somewhere between 10-12 inches in the rear. I would go look but those rims are packed away as they are my summer wheels i use the good old 15 inch phone dials in the colder months.

Just a shot in the dark, but I am guessing an 85' 944.

From the reading I have done, you would be able to fit 265's in there but it may require modification (as stated above). You would also have to run spacers, but you know that...

Good luck with th 18's and maybe we could get together next summer so I could check out the twists, since you are so close...

wow. those have got to be the fatest tires I have ever seen on a 944. I can't believe you fit those. Did you do any modifications to the fender? And what size spacers did you run?

Nope, no rolling or anything, although it did rub in the front during speed bumps and pot holes, but nothing major.

I had 1.5 inch on the fronts, then a Quarter incher behind the 1 incher on the drivers side rear (since that side sticks out about a 1/4 more.) and a Quarter behind a 1.5 inch on the rear passanger. This evened the look and no rubbing since the camber of the rear cause them to ride right inside almost perfectly.

awesome, these are coming off of a 996TT, but they are 993 twists. I don't know for sure if I'll get them, but I wanted to make sure they'd fit first. Speedracer, sounds great, keep in touch and I'll see you in the summer.

Damn. Did you EVER loose traction in the N/A with those 295s?

I was running Potenza 255/40/17's on the NA and I got it loose with a bad clutch just this past weekend. Keep it in mind that the softer the rubber the higher the normal running temps. My VW has 225's all around and they are Kumho 711's. They turn into icecubes in the cold and I could spin them through 3rd, maybe 4th when it's cold. 150lbs of torque is enough.

I am guessing that those 295's on a hot summer day were some stickey tires!! Wonder what those and a good suspension setup could go to the skidpad rating
