Default Rev limiter to stop unauthorised abuse??

I have seen first hand what some techs do to a car when they complete a 'road test' following repairs. Its probably not much worse than I do myself, but hey its my car.
Does anyone have any knowledge of how to impose a rev limit on these engines to stop abuse by others driving our cars?
eg mecahical clamp on accel linkage, reduction in fuel pressure, etc

Obviously if anyone is serious they could diconnect/override IT but there would be a disincentive to many

Cheers

well, tthere is a stop you can turn out under the throttle pedal (how do you knwo where to adjust that anyway btw?)... But unless you turn it out so that the pedal only goes 1/4 of the way, i think they can still get it up to redline?

when i adjusted mine when i put a throttle cam on, i backed it out, pushed the pedal down, and had a friend under the hood checking if it was wide open, when he said it was wide open, thats where i left the little bolt. then i adjusted the cable to make up for the slack.

FR wilk sells chips with a "valet" rev limit of 2500 or so. you can get a switch to flip it from power mode to valet mode, or from stock mode to valet mode. Check it out if you really want to do this, frwilk.com

or... find a repair shop that you trust and won't abuse the car in the first place. also, what do you mean by you've "seen first hand"? Are we to understand you "road test" customers cars?

I caught a shop in the act of doing this, a very well known local chain here. First thing the tech did was stall the car, as I waited for my ride while out of eyesight. While taking it into the garage, he proceeded to turn out on the street and promptly leave with my car. Long story short, I'm back in the shop seconds later threatening to hold them and call the police for stealing my car, and it was very clear car theft, regardless of how quickly he was going to bring it back and where he was going.

Beware, stick to whoever you know best. Sure, it might be $10/hr more expensive, but at least its in the hands of someone I trust.

When I worked for Midas we were required to test drive the cars anytime we touched anything on the braking system or suspension and I'm not gonna lie I was not gentle with any of the cars. This could be taken as good or bad though. On one hand I hit everything hard so if there was any defect in my work it would show up immediately and be apparent to me that I didn't do something right and on the other hand I dogged the **** out of the car but I was always careful to not peg it to redline. I use Jacobs Ignition systems in my cars so I have a programmable rev limiter that I can change within a few seconds short of that I'd see if Wilks could program a dual chip with the power prom and the valet mode.

I would think that rev-limiting the car could potentially lead to a dangerous situation on the road when the tech needs to accelerate aggressively, like getting onto the highway from an onramp. I can understand a valet limit, there it's usually just driving around a parking lot.

If I do let someone drive my car, I encourage them to exercise it a little. If someone did work on my car, I'd want them to make sure it worked in the worst of conditions...how else can I trust it if I need the brakes or suspension to work at 10/10ths one day? If they progressively test something until it's almost abuse, whatever.

I would think it's in pretty good hands at a reputable shop. I'd imagine the techs drive enough Porsches that it's not particular fun to beat the snot out of one, like the kids at a Jiffy Lube might do. If I drove customer cars day in and day out, I certainly wouldn't see the fun in redlining or beating them. Letting your tech go to track day with your car might be another story, though.

with an electromotive tec3 stand-alone engine management setup you can program a whole variety of things for valet and what not. it's pretty cool
