PICTURE TIME

Oh and BTW, the pictures of the pistons give you a reason why to avoid ARCO gas stations and 87 octane...and PEMEX...let's not go there

I will have fun cleaning those pistons....

Were you able to see if there was any areas that a ring had gone bad and scratched the piston wall? There is only 1 picture that shows #2 and #3 walls and they look OK from this resolution? Also how about the HG, any places that you might have noticed blow-by? Carbon build-up looks normal for a 100K engine. Take some brake cleaner to them it should clean them right up with a little work.

Good luck!

Not to hijack the thread, but I'm rebuilding a Nissan 300ZXT engine (V6) with a friend of mine, and he picked up a set of six oversized pistons and rings for 220USD.

Why can't we have the same prices!?

That is not the block from his car, it is the "new" one. Original engine is still in the car.

This is the engine that you bought to put in your car?

Are you sure that was a rod bearing? I covered the short block with the head gasket and the bores with a towel but I did cut up the 944 with the cylinder head off the car while the short block was still in the car. After I cut away most of the front end, I was able to get to all the bolts with ease.

Stig,
The crank and the rod bearings you took off look fine. Debris is from somewhere, but not from the rod bearings.

ah ok, so I'm in the clear than I hope if that's not from the bearings. WHEW...
I'm not sure then where that metal came from...if not bearings.... then I don't know

Apparently it was stuck to the oil sump screen.

The crankshaft looks ok, possible debris left from a previous repair. Did u look at your oil cooler for any type of damage, missing pieces ?

Affirmative. Nothing missing on the oil cooler. Can I re-use my oil cooler in a rebuilt engine or will this warrant a replacement also? It just looks a little heat-treaded more or less.
