Default Dynamat?

Anyone used this and reported some serious reduction in noise?

I can get a bulk set, which contains 9 pieces of 18"x 32" for just under $250 here locally......

Is it REALLY worth it?

I used it in the trunk of another car with a good radio and it worked great but it was alittle heavy. If your not concerned with weight then go for it.

It is heavy and it works great! having said that there are imposter products that i just put in my sons NS car and it worked just as good at half the price. they are all heavy though! you have to have the density to kill the noise.

Weight is not my issue at all, heck the car is driven 99% on the street and 90% on the freeways at 100+mph (legal limit).

Comparing that with my mothers 2006 BMW 323i just made me feel bad

That supplier had some thinner and lighter stuff, can't recall the name now. But he informed me it delivers 80% of what dynamat does, but for cheaper price as well.

But in general, i am covering the rear trunk, spare tire, those two small storage on the sides, under the rear seats for now. Is that enough? or should i go for the full package and take off the whole carpet and use it there as well?

Is it really worth $250 for this and 8+ hour of labour?

I think the one I put in my son's car was called fatmat. I got it for less that 1.00 per sq. ft. shipped off of evilbay and it worked pretty good. here is a link: http://cgi.ebay.com/100-Fatmat-Car-A...QQcmdZViewItem three house left....

I used Rockford Fosgate’s Noise Killer Blue, in some older cars of mine. Connect to a compressor and spray it on. It gave better coverage and was way easier to put on than dynamat.
With Dynamat it's recommended to use a heat gun and a roller to make sure there are NO air bubbles.

that was the beauty of this fatmat, no heat gun and it conforms really well, not to mention the price. I'm sure if you do a scientific study some one will come up with a test tht says dynomat can't be beat, I gues my ears just aren't what they used to be and it sounds good enough for gov't work. But like you say the spray on would go on much quicker and easier. does it come in an aeresol can or do you use some sort of gun?

The spray on stuff seems pretty good. Not to hijack the thread, but i have a quick question you guys could probably help me with. My third brake light rattles every time the subs hit. Is there anything I can do about it? Have any of you guys had the same problem?

Here is a quick link for some info..seems it's now called "Dead Skin" and it's available with a gun for use with compressors or aerosol. I would think using a compressor would be better...

Try tightening the screws first...but I assume you have tried that.
or
Take off the third light....Then you can get some weatherstripping from Lowes and slice it down into thinner strips and line the outer edge with it. Put the light back up and it form a better seal!

I have a cabriolet so...no subs for me right now. I am looking into the JL Audio 8W7's for the trunk. I figure 3 of 'em should sound just right...not too loud and not too soft.

I was told that the dynamat stuff is flexible and that you should NOT use spray or heat gun, just place it and that's it.

In order for the Dynamat to do it's job it has to have a good bond to the panel and without air pockets. Otherwise, you will then a half glued heavy piece of tar flapping around making noise. So, the heat gun will warm up the tar so it can be more flexible and the roller is to help reduce the air bubbles.. You don't have to use it but...if you want to do it right.

I've used both pretty extensively in my youth. The spray was easier because all you had to do was mask off the area and spray. The heavier you went...the better the dampening effect. 1/8th to 1/4th inch layer is recommended

With the Dynamat, (which is really good too, don't get me wrong) you need to cut the material for fit. Then you "should" warm it up place it on the panel and roll it out. Make sure you cut any needed holes for screws/ handles and such. Being in the south, I hated because everytime I wanted to work on the doors, it always had this sticky feeling to it. For flat panels...it not too bad. But imagine trying to that all over your car. For example, for the best results in your doors, you need to to do both the outer skin and the inner panel as well. Try reaching into your late model door with Electronic locks!

To get to the point...both work great. The spray is much easier...

Good luck
