Yuk How do I clean all this up?
Was doing some vac. line replacing today and decided to do some intake removal to get to the ISV and clean my throttle body. I found a freeking Tornado thingy just after the AFM (PO). Then when I got it all appart this is what I found.????
And intake manifold.
How am I going to clean up those valves?

Hmm...wonder if the tornado would do anything in our cars considering how much the AFM must mess up the air flow, it might actually help to reduce turbulance.
Would carb cleaner do anything to the intake there?

get some of that e-check in a bottle that you add to your tank...that stuff works well for that. Drive it around and watch the cloud of burning carbon as you take off.

Consumer Reports did a test of the Tornado and several other so-called HP maker gadgets. The Tornado actualy caused restriction and poorer mpg. Besides the damb thing cut me while trying to get it out

On mine it was placed right behind the AFM. That would put it so far upstream on an S it would have no affect. Besides if is such a great thing why don't auto makers use it in the first place? What if one of the metal peaces had come off and down my intake? If you want it I could send it to you, just pay shipping
Besides it bit me

They don't use it because it seems to make your car sound more vocal, you can hear the air going in most of the time. I know on Chrysler cars they actually put a silencer type device to smooth out the air and make it quieter. That tornado makes the car sound like ****, if you listen carefully.

At ~100K miles, my ports loooked like that, too (I don't remember my valves looking that bad...). I stuffed paper towels in the ports and sprayed some carb cleaner on one to see how hard that was going to be to clean up. Too hard, I decided. What I did do was take an xacto knife and very carefully peel away what I could, being insanely careful not to loose any flakes. Then a firm rub down with a carb cleaner dampened rag, making sure that none of the remaining film was loose (wear gloves). Then the shop vac. It didn't get all that clean, but hey, life's too short to waste too much time on some jobs.

Yes I'm in Kentucky, Vine Grove that is . gtroth I just got done doing the very thing you discribed including the shopvac trick. I taped a small 1/2 inch copper tube to the vac so I could get around easy .

We had an open PO for dyno pulls and tried the tornado in a 3.5L Nissan VQ (the motor in everything Nissan/Infinity now). The tornado didn't do ****.
Seriously if an OEM could get the kind of gains they claim from such a simple device dont you think they would put it in from the factory?
