Default picture request: lower windshield S2

Hi,

My windshield was obviously replaced, but it looks as though they did a really bad job. There is sealent everywhere at the bottom of the windshield and I suspect there is a moulding missing at the bottom also. So if anyone can post a picture where the windshield meets the car at the bottom it would be a great help. This way I'll get an idea on how it's duposed to look. Thanks for your time.

it could be that yout windsheild was replaced, one way to tell is to look on the windsheild ans see if you can see a manufactors name on it. The original OE glass was Sekurfilk(Sp) r something similar I forget how to spell it. also if you look at the pictures above you will see to little spacer blocks on the bottom those should still be there as that is what holds the windsheild up. But as for a molding the isn't anything down there

thanks for the pics, I thought there was a molding. I obviously have a replacement winshield cause someone did a sloppy job sealing it, you can hear air leaking through the bottom of it at high speed...

Actually, the silicon on the rubber boot might have been someone's attempt to fully seal up a vacuum line or something.....

IIRC the later ‘airbag’ cars have a windshield that should come with a thick seal around the entire perimeter

as opposed to the 85.5 – 87 (non-airbag) windshield, because the non-airbag car body has an additional metal strip along the bottom (a ‘take-up holder’ welded to the cowl) and whose glass required a separate 3-sided seal that pressed onto the sides and top of the w/s frame only

so if glass for a '85.5 - 87 was used on a later airbag car there would be a good sized gap along the bottom

(because that additional metal strip welded to the cowl was eliminated with airbag cars)

btw…late cars (post 85.1) have w/s glass that is about ½ inch wider than the ‘early’ cars

so if an ‘early’ w/s was used on a ‘late’ you would have a 1/4inch gap on each side
