I'm sure Campeck can think of some reasons that have meaning to him personally as well. I'm betting Campeck was the kind of kid that had hordes of Legos, and when he got presents for birthdays or Christmas, played with them for a week (at most) and proceeded to take a screwdriver to them because they were fun to disassemble. There doesn't need to be a practical reason why.

Funny, the more I think about it, the more that statement is hypocritical. Maybe because a 951 is so easy to obtain and it will be a better car.
I'm going a similar route w/ the e30 and will be assembling a MS ems soon.

As has been pointed out, there are a lot of items to consider to do this project right.
I kinda have faith that Campeck is going to pull this off. First, he knows his way around tools, and second, he has a dad that is obviously very adept at cars to sound ideas off of and get help from.
It's a cool challenge. I must admit I would not try it right now, I'm feeling enough challenge just working on a stock restoration. I admire the initiative.
Plus, we all know the real motivation.....
Campeck will be able to add a line to his sig something like:
"Fastest home-built turbo 944 in the world with NO belt covers biatch!"

Hey pecker, did you happen to see that monster 951 in Excellence a few years ago, where they got rid of the headlight mechanism and washer bottle and all and moved the turbo up into that location? If you like I will see if I can find the issue and scan the picture. Very cool solution.

yeah. Ive seen something similar.
the whole point of the first stage of this project is turbocharging an NA without extensive modification.
after i know it can be done...then comes the fun stuff.
theres a LOT of room under the hood for a MASSIVE turbo once you have deleted the AC and moved the alternator down. MUAHAHAAaaaa!!!
(but thats later)

I was thinking from the standpoint of not plumbing the turbo over to the other side of the engine bay like on the 951. The car in Excellents eliminated that need. Less tubing, etc.

i read somethign about one of those.
it was pretty awesome.
at higher rpms the turbo blew through the supercharger..and actually pumped rotational speed. (more hp)
BACK into the engine! insane.
