My 100,000 mile update.

So, my car made it to the big One Zero Zero Zero Zero Zero the other day. I was quite pleased. Shortly thereafter, I remembered that **** was breaking left and right, and that euphoric joy went right out the window. So to congratulate each other, the car and I bought the following from Paragon Products:
- Radiator
- Thermostat
- Thermostat O-Ring
- Thermostat Circlip
- Coolant Temp Sensor
- Front Brake Rotors
- Front and Rear Brake Pads
- ATE Blue Brake Fluid
- Motive Power Bleeder
All told the bill with tax and shipping came out to about $670. Of course, I would loved to have waited until I had the cash to buy such a list of items, but leaky radiators, warped discs, and low pads wait for no man, so on the credit card it went. Hopefully the install will go smoothly and I can get back on the road without a hitch. And as usual, the guys at Paragon Products are the best.

Way to go Trevor!
Here's to the next 100,000 miles.
I'm at 187,000+ right now. Should see 200,000 some time late next year or early in 2007.
BTW - the steering shaft you sent me worked out just fine.
I did a small amount of bearing 'kompression' to take out the slop. It helped remove most of the objectionable clunking in my steering. The rest was corrected with new upper strut bearings.
Here's to the next 100,000 miles.

I'm going to Dallas on saturday to pick up a 944 with over 300k on the engine. I will do a compression test and thourough inspection to see if its in good shape. If it is, I will do a light "refresh" and just drive it as-is. I know there are plenty of these cars with real high milieage that are going strong - as long as you take care of them they will last a long long time!

I hit this on the way to the Zone 1 autocross event this last weekend.
I was pretty pleased as well, was going to attempt 75mph at 75k but the conditions were less than stellar (heavy rains) with bald tires. In celebration, i filled up on a full tank (i havent done that in months) and just bought the hardware kit for the front brakes...need to do those front pads before i hit 80k for sure.

100,000 miles / 28-ish miles per gallon = 3,571 gallons of gas.
Over the last 20 years the price of gas has probably averaged about $1.30 or so (maybe someone can correct this), so that's $4,642 just to get you there, on top of oil changes, tires, maintenance, parts, track days, insurance, beer to drink while wrenching, and the original cost of the car. . .
That's truly an accomplishment when one considers the amount of money alone it takes to get a car to that milestone!
