Here are some pics: these are all from sources on rennlist (asarus and Tifo). I have a bunch of detailed pics (various details of the hood, latches, etc) that I took of the #103 '87 Escort, but unfortunately they are old school 35mm pics, nothing electronic....

I am pretty sure that these parts were made by Fairchild fastener (aircraft parts supplier), that is now owned by Alcoa. This stud latch still shows up in the Fairchild Camloc catalog. And I have tried to purchase the item from various distributers and from Alcoa direct. Much of the Camloc 4000 series hardware is readily available, but this particular design (called the "folding bail handle" : 40S47-18) is not commonly stocked. Alcoa said they would make a run of them, but I would have to order at least 500 parts. Anyone want to buy a set (group buy)...?

Hello guys,

I am new to Rennlist, I normally chat on Pelican. I live in Durban South-Africa and own an original 1987 944 turbo cup aswell as a 911 RSR Jagermeifler replica.

I have been following this forum and have found it extremely interesting, wow great work in getting all the information of those first US cars, I would like to try and do that in SA, and know of about 5 SA turbo cup cars here.

Anyone got any info of the SA turbo cup series?

Johnny, thanks for your post. I cant speak for others here, but I know very little about the South African series, and have never even seen a picture of the cars raced there. My guess is that they are built to the same/similar specs as the other 87+ Turbo Cup/US Clup Sport cars, likely with Bilstein suspension (not Koni like the US cars)?

What years did the series run in SA?

Hello Jim,

thanks for message. Series ran from about 1988 here with the races at Kayalami being part of the international series. I think cars were built very similar to Europoean and US cars

i am trying to get more local info and will keep posting

Welcome Johnny!
Based on the VIN you posted on Pelican, yours was produced in 1987 along with a group of Cup cars destined for France in the European series. Sebastien Candela (Asarus) has a fantastic site which acts as a registry for Turbo Cup cars. You should email him the details on your car. He may be able to assist you with obtaining information on yours as well.

Hello,

Thanks i have spoken to Sebastien and have some info from him thanks, his site is great.

I know my car originally was purchased here in SA to race in the local SA series by a local driver and did so for many years. I am hoping to get more info from local sources who raced at the time. One of the drivers in the series in SA is now the SA Porsche dealer principal.

I will keep you guys updated

Watch out, kids, those years just keep rolling by, faster and faster!

Exactly twenty years ago yesterday, a buddy and I flew to PA, picked up my brand new Turbo Cup car from Porsche Motorsport North America (run by Holbert at the time), and drove it home.

Pardon my ignorance but what makes the car special other than rarity?

Well, if you go back to the beginning of this thread and start reading, I guess you can decide for yourself whether these factory-built Porsche race cars are special or not.

Post #45 in this thread has an overview of the differences between these Cup Cars and street 944 Turbos.

Default cup car side mirrors

Are the passenger and drives side mirrors for the cup cars available from Porsche ? Does anyone have the part numbers or know the pricing. I would like to replace the existing stock flag mirrors on my 89 944 Turbo.
