Yep, I did get it installed in an afternoon. I had to fab four angled brackets out of flat iron to attach the rear spoiler trim to the hatch glass as a substitute for the tabs that come on the updated hatch. Real simple. The only real hitch was the need to also purchase the updated hatch pin mounts which I did not include in my inital parts inventory. The originals interfered with the new rear hatch seal. I'm thrilled with the result. It ended up costing me ~1,600 though which is probably more than you will pay for a good used 968 rear hatch.

I owe Rennlist pics and a write-up - just got WAY to busy at work. I'll snap and post a quick one tonite as a teaser.

Yes, though the 944 rubber wing-o is that much heavier that it really demonstrates how worn out your hatch struts really are

Has anyone tried the fiberglass replica 968 wing? What were your thoughts?

I am in process of 968 hatch install on 951.
I took a number of pics regarding hoop spoiler removal and testarossatd did a little write up.
The 968 hoop is back from paint and reinstalled with trim on hatch
The 944 spoiler has been removed as I too was curious about all the differences.
The most obvious is the lack of tabs to mount the trim under 968 spoiler.
I have both in front of me if you have specific question

Forgot to mention - complete 968 hatch $850 - OUCH -
I think I overpaid, but WTF I wanted it real bad

Ack!! Home too late to take a good photo (this one sucks). I'm going to get the spoiler painted to match the rest of the car so I'll document the install (with good pixs) when it comes back from the paint shop. I must say that all those expensive gaskets give the whole assembly a really clean look. later.

Oh, hatch pin mounts are:

944.512.033.03 $78.41
944.512.034.03 $78.41

(prices from Sunset)

The original mounts distort the hatch seal such that it will not seat properly against the rear deck.

Clark,
Can you tell me which part number is the middle trim piece below the spoiler that doesn't have the third brake light? Also, I've dissasembled a 968 hatch and the middle trim piece attaches to 4 tabs sticking out from the rear frame of the hatch. How did you attach the center trim piece that you installed and do you have any pictures?
Thanks,
Rick

The seal that runs along the bottom edge of the lower spoiler lip? Not the full hatch seal that is attached around the entire hatch opening, correct?

I have a 968 hatch on my 944 and am still using the 968 hatch pin housings. The 968s use a different seal that actually screws to the body/frame of the rear hatch. At this point, I dont want to drill holes in the car to mount these, so I am looking at converting the seal setup to the 944S2 type system. Just trying to figure out how many additional parts I need...

Not much to see in my case. Just unbolted the hatch from my '91 s2 parts car and swapped to my turbo. took about 20 minutes lol

Nice job on your part though Clark. I wouldn't paint it though on a white car. If anything, just paint the top piece of the wing like was done some 968's

Rick, The lower spoiler trim piece is 944-512-103-00-03C. Miraculously the four attach points align perfectly with the screw holes for the rubber spoiler. In my case I fabricated four tabs out of 3/16 bar stock, drilled and tapped them with threads to receive the four screws on the hoop spoiler trim and four screws that go right back where they were to hold on the rubber spoiler. Took some time to get things aligned and angled correctly, but it worked. I'm pulling the spoiler for painting tjis weekend so I'll snap a pix or two.

Mike, I agree, I'm only going to paint the hoop spoiler to match the car and leave everything else as is.

Yes, that's the seal. It does have a tab on each end that is supposed to be screwed into the hatch frame. Its somewhat similiar to the 944 set up, but on the 944 there was a metal tab inserted into the seal that stiffens the connection. No such tabs came with my seal so for now I'm letting them be. -clark

This sounds like a helluva lot of work. What does going through all this grief actually gain you? This isn't even the aero/dynamic 968 wing (is it?)
