Need opinions on pricing 1987 944
I'm hoping I can get some help from everyone here. There's a 1987 944 N/A for sale close to my house (Trenon, NJ). I've spoken to the owner and here's the rundown:
42k original miles
red/black, 15" phone dials with cooper tires, may be dryrotted, wheels need to be refinished (no curbing, just fading)
interior 9/10, no dash cracks
exterior 5/10, badly faded paint, front bumper has been resprayed
doesn't run, may need alternator according to the owner, hasn't run in over a year
A/C doesn't work
Timing/Balance belt done 2 and 1/2 years ago
shocks have been replaced, about 6 years ago, owner doesn't know brand
4 way Power seats (non-sport), alarm, cruise, aftermarket CD player
With a few dollars and some elbow grease, this could be a daily driver. I think the owner has it over priced for what it is, but I figure I'll get the opinions of some of the folks that know this better than I do.
Thanks!
Steve

Question Need opinions on princing 1987 944
I'd use a silver crown as the gold has become soooo common. Oh...and the whole fur thing is not politically correct.
All hail the prince!
j/k

Sounds similar to the condition of my '87 944 when i bought it. Faded paint but a perfect interior. I bought mine with 61k miles for $3150. No service records came with it. The big catch about my car is that the owner knew NOTHING about what a 944 was worth. He wanted to just get rid of the car due to a overheating problem caused by a faulty temp sensor.
The big difference however is mine was running.
If that car were running, i would estimate in the $4500 range. You need to first figure out why its not running, dont take the owners word for it.
BTW, i bought the car about one year ago in Queens, NY. I figure the prices between here and central NJ are not much off.

1. Does the odometer work? Without it running you won't know. Records?
2. Why does it no longer run? I would get at least a compression test.
I think it would be kinda difficult to put a price on it as it could be a 43K odometer with a 200k motor.
Pricing blind I would only offer 2k.

I would say first thing would be to get a porsche mechanic to look at it and find out how much it may cost to get it running again. Then go from there, and Clint 944 has a good point is the odemeter working?
I do not think you can price it until you get an idea of what is wrong with it and know what you would be getting youself into by buying the car. After you get an idea of what could be wrong then you can make an offer.
