Slightly OT, yes. But how exactly is Mexico's involvement going to make a difference? They only thing that will have an impact is when American consumers wake up to the fact they're getting gouged on new housing prices thanks to their government's tarifs.

Wait until that wave of prime west-coast lumber hits the market as foresters try to isolate the long-eared beetle, or whatever it is. That's really going to **** those uncompetitive US lumber companies off.

The cost of the 'average' woodframe home in this country has risen dramatically. The lions share of the increase in urban areas is land value, scarcity, and rising labor costs. Even if lumber prices fell by 25% I don't think it would be all that noticeable in the overall cost of housing. It might show up in more rural areas where land speculation and unchecked growth isn't the norm. I wish we would use more metal stud construction; all those big American cars that get crushed and sent to Korea would return as a roof over our heads. In the grand scheme of things I really don't think the average American is too concerned what the President of Mexico really has to say about lumber. When he starts getting serious about illegal aliens maybe people will sit up and listen and take him seriously.

Sorry, sorry, I was confused, it happens a lot. Age I think. I thought I was in OT. However while I'm here. The Mexico connection doesn't have to do with them having wood. It has to do with them being in NAFTA and concern that the USA didn't live up to the treaty obligations. NAFTA may be unravelling.
