Default Anyone know where I could have my engine rebuilt?

Well, long story short.. my low oil pressure finally gave in and turned into no oil pressure.. i drove home about two miles with it like this (probably a stupid idea).. and im assuming the worst. It stalled on me right when i got home. Im thinking i may just want to have the engine rebuilt depending on prices. Anyone know of anywhere (besides broadfoot, way out of my price range) to have one of these engines rebuilt? TIA.

Well, if you lived closer, I had time, and you had cash, I'd do it for ya.... it's easy. buy a stand and do it yourself... seriously.... shop manual is your friend.

I agree - I'm rebuilding my second one now. The first one I rebuilt is in the car, running strong with 5000 miles on it now. It requires patience and some mechanical skill and the help of Rennlist...assuming the pistons and rods are ok, you can do this job yourself for about $500 not including some "while your in there stuff".

Jeff, if you need any parts or advice, let me know and I'll help any way I can...

Well, Ive replaced the headgasket, so im not a total "noob". I just really dont have the time to do it right now or I would. Thanks for the offers to help. They are appreciated. My plan right now is to buy another car while i get this one fixed, because I need to have a car to get back and forth to work/school. Then, once I get the new engine in this one, either sell it, or continue driving it. I doubt Id get any money for this car while its not running. I would love to do a total rebuild on the engine, but time just isnt on my side right now. Sooooo if anyone has any recommendations for me, it would be much appreciated.

(by the way, the other car is an 86' 944 turbo)

really, cus mine just lost oil pressure on number two for like a millisecond and the rod bearing is toast, prob. 800 at the machine shop plus 500+ in seals anitfreeze oil etc stuff plus im putting rollers and belts on it again. Thats just if your block isnt toast from rings w/ no oil.

What he said... However, with my screw up (it was VERY dumb) and all the machining, and the spare engine, etc. etc. etc.... mine cost more than that.... not going to disclose that.... but if ya don't f*ck up (READ THE INSTRUCTIONS... THEY HELP) it'll be cheap.

Just goto a salvage yard, pick one up and swap it out.

If anyone is interested, I have an '84 944 engine sitting in my garage right now. The leakdown test was <3% on all four cylinders. It has about 100k on it, with less than 4k on a new head install and front end seal. It needs a new oil pan gasket and I'd suggest doing rod bearings while you are at it, but is otherwise very solid. If you are looking for an engine to throw in your car, or if you want something solid to do a fresh build on, this would be a good candidate.

Ping me if you are interested. I want my garage back...

Regards,

I kept my rebuild costs down by not requiring any machine shop work. If you spun a bearing (like I did), buy a good used crankshaft for $75-100 (they are on eBay all the time) and a replacement rod (if you old one is damaged) for about $50. Other mandatory things:

Rings: $75
Main Bearings: $140
Rod Bearings: $65
Head Gasket: $60
Oil Pan Gasket: $45

Add another $100 for seals, gaskets, etc. Ok, I guess that closer to $650-700. Of course you will probably want to replace belts, pulleys, etc while you're in there... I was lucky to be able to use the block as-is...

Sorry Jeff - I know you are not going to do your own rebuild, but thought I'd post some details behind my low-ball number

Thanks for the input guys. I really wish I had the time to do it myself, its just not feasible right now. Theres nothing I would like to do more then pull the motor and rebuild it, trust me. It would be such an amazing learning experience. The time just aint right currently. Thanks again.
