Default Interior delete project under way.

Everything inside the car that isn't necessary is in the process of being removed. This could be a loooooooong project, the adhesive that attaches the carpet and sound proofing looks like a bear to remove. Anyway, my initial weight savings on my barely begun project are:
carpet, padding, trim pieces, speakers, center console, seat belts, visors, misc. pleasantries 109 pounds
spare tire and jack 40
rear seat back 24
passenger seat 41
drivers power seat 50
(add back in 2 corbeau seats w/ harnesses) +70
my net weight loss so far after 4 hrs. work = 194 pounds!!!

And I'm nowhere near finished.
Next up is: power door hardware and glass, rear power hatch mechanism, air bags, power steering delete (no more leaks!!!), power locks delete, ac, windshield wash tank and hoses, heater core, etc.

Do you plan to race this car in a specific class or series? For example, in PCA Club Racing Stock Classes, the interior stays.

Just curious...

This car is for DE and open track days only. I thought of Club Racing, but with all their restrictions on mods I would not be able to do things to the car that I want to do. I have plenty of fun DEing, and I can mod what I want without looking over my shoulder for the scrutineers.

Sounds great. I am envious. The interior in these cars really takes up a LOT of space.

Looks good, you'll be amazed at the effect this has at the track.

For removing the glue and goo, use 3M Adhesive Remover from the auto parts stores (white can, pink lettering). Plan on lots of elbow grease. I have a lot of hours getting ALL of the crap out of the interior of my car except for the joint sealer. I may yet try to remove that as well.

I found I had to use a heat gun and scraper to remove the sound deadening. That was the nastiest stuff to remove and took the most time (again 3M adhesive remover).

Thanks guys! It actually looks like sh*t right now, but that's to be expected. I have some industrial strength adhesive remover from work I'm going to use, I'll let you know how that works. I figure from previous threads 35-40 hrs. to prep the interior for paint. This could take me a couple months so be patient with updates. It's going to be painted white with a white cage.
As well as weight savings, this "diet" will also make maintenance items easier to work on. One quick example: changing the oil filter without the windshield wash reservoir and PS reservoir in the way!!!
This is a lot of work, but I'm actually having a lot of fun with it.

Are you 100% sure you want to run on the track without windscreen washers ? Or do you have an alternative solution ?

I run on the track like that and have never had and issue.

Then again in 5 years of track driving I have driven in the rain once and seen the track damp 2-3 times.

Could do what Rich Sandor did, add back in a lightweight interior. Adds back a few pounds, but saves hours of glue removal and looks AWSOME.

6 years of tracking and I've never used the squirts, the windshield wipers will be left on the car though if that's what you mean.

I'll do a search and see what I find, thanks!

If you are going to install a roll cage or roll bar, the time to do it is pre-interior paint. Cage folks love welding stuff in with the interior all nicely removed (all glue must be gone from welding locations). Then, they spray the whole interior and cage at the same time.

Looks very nice, like a factory race car, when it's done. Something to consider if it's not already on your radar screen.
