968 purchase in Tulsa, Ok
My buddy is about to purchase a 968 in Tulsa. Before we fly down there and bring it back with us we want to have it inspected by a mechanic that is knowledgable and trustworthy with 968s.
Does anyone have any reccommendations???? THanks.

Theres a guy in Tulsa that has an excellent reputation by a lot of folks, so you will probably hear his name mentioned. Unfortunately (and no direspect intended towards the guy, no one can know everything), he really doesn't know much about 968's beyond commonalities shared with 944's. There's a couple of MAJOR things you need to know about 968's, especially concerning the variocam system, and he demonstrated his lack of expertise in this area a while back (I believe you can ask Raj on the Rennlist 968 forum for more details on this). For that reason, I would suggest that you pm Raj or myself, and we can get you some very detailed questions that you need to have answered as a part of PPI.
I am NOT going to name name's in public here, the guy in question is very much a good guy and doesn't deserve to have his name trampled.
Regards,

I don't know who Scott is referring to, but Tom Charlesworth is quite well known. 918-664-8714 I believe he is even a technical advisor for PCA and contributes to Panorama.
If that doesn't work out, Oklahoma City has an independent shop named Bob Dumont's Ltd, and there is the dealership (Bob Moore Porsche).

Was this the car that appeared on autotrader Saturday with around 30K miles on it? I emailed the guy, but it was out of my price range, and he was only 3 1/2 hours from me.
Jacky Cooper Porsche is the local Porsche Dealership, but don't know about them having any qualified 968 techs on site.

Depending on the milage, don't forget to have the cam chain tensioner pad inspected. If the milage is 60K miles or less, I'd not worry about it, but after that . . . It would be no fun to blow the top 1/2 of the engine while driving back home.

Brought her back to Ottawa last night. 1468 miles one way. Drove beautifully.
Tom Charlesworth did the PPI. Talking to him was pretty cool. He's been around the Porsche world. He's the head technical guy at the PCA.
This is the 35,000 mile car from Tulsa. 1995, 6 speed, leather, LSD, guards red/black. Selection in Canada is few and far between and at greater cost than what is available in the US. Very, very few marks, no paint fade - extremely clean.
My buddy is very pleased.

Thats a pretty 968- Best of luck!
I know Triscadek speaks very highly of Charlesworth as well.. I was hoping he would chime in here, but he's probably on the road.

She's beautiful!!
I bought my first Porsche from Tulsa, OK back in '91. My '85 Sapphire Blue 944 with only 37,000 miles on her! Mint condition, with black leather interior.
I wish I could find her, my ex sold her out from under me. Long story, not for here.

Crazy Canuck...you are a crazy canuck for driving my car across the continent. I am so thankful it got to its new home safely! Hey, wait it's not my car anymore...it is sad to see it in someone elses garage, but I'm happy it's got a new home and another owner the loves it as much as I did.
