Default I love how these cars are so timeless

Ok, as some of you know, my school isn't in the best neighborhood... So.... today, I'm going to the turbo (I'm borrowing Dad's while mine is under the knife) and I see some people standing around it... I instantly put my hand on my pocket knife, and yell out a defensive "WHAT'S UP?!" the guys are like, "Hi, is this yours?"
"um... yeah, for the time being... it's Dad's, mine is at home in pieces"
"wow, it's awesome!"
"thanks!"
"I love the 944 turbo... this must be an early 90's model.."
"nope. 1988."
"wha? wow! it sure looks great, how many miles?"
"56K"
"DAMN!"
"Yeah..."

get into more car talk...aparently the guy had a friend with an NA back in seattle, and his accomplice has a GORGEOUS 1980 Mazda RX-7... talked for quite a while... they're kept complimenting the car throughout the whole conversation...

Man, I just can't get enough of these cars...

Lets just say that it did have that interior... the PO took care of it for us, and had it reupholstered in burgundy leather....

Now... it does still have the plaid door panels...

Yummm..... I love my plaid.... Make me feel like I should wear a Scottish kilt when I drive.

That 88na is probably a black/grey/white plaid (the 'anniversary edition' or something like that). Pretty rare find -- I think 250 were made?

would it be worth buying one with a tattered interior and an engine fire? can you get the plaid material anymore to restore it?

it is black exterior, with the black/grey/white plaid interior.

My car only gets compliments from my porsche friend, and my friend with an 86 rx-7. Everyone else is either too busy with their ricers, or too busy looking at dad's 928S. Geoff, I think you mean our DADS' cars are timeless... Maybe it's just this city.

I used to have that problem too. The digital clock always ran slow so I never knew the correct time. That analog 968 clock is so much nicer.

Ha!! Funny. I like a digital clock in a car. Not into the "retro" analog clocks. They don't go in a modern interior, IMHO. Digital is cold and functional, like most German car interiors!

Back on topic, I think the flared fenders of the 944 completely modernized the looks. I think 924's are very dated looking due to their less muscular lines (not that there's anything wrong with that).

Most people that see my car think "wow, a Porsche (as they should)!" and not "Wow, that's an old car (as they should, too)!"

I get alot of older guys complimenting it. My favorite though, is when you're slowly driving through the city and people check it out. Last night in Arlington,
a cute asian girl was walking with her friends. I was at a red light when they walked across the road and she nudged her friends and said "look at that really nice Porsche".

My two friends were in the car at the time and they were surprised at the attention and looks it gets. They never say that they like it though!

If you think about it, our cars are tiny, sports cars, in a sea of SUV's. They are bound to stand out! Add some nice rims, tire treatment, ultra clean paint, and the car looks almost new!

Speaking of the looks of our cars, this weekend I saw the new Dukes of Hazzard movie. Yeah, I know - WHY? I grew up watching the show, and honestly the movie was mildly entertaining - sometimes you gotta watch a brainless movie to decompress... but I digress.

The rear quarter panels of the 'ol General Lee Charger have a similar buldge to our beloved 944. Anyone else notice that?!?

I loved those Chargers when I was a kid! The "flare" on the fenders really made them stand out back then. Similar to a Porsche...I think not!
